This is inaccurate. The purses were in addition to the guaranteed signing bonuses. Dustin Johnson confirmed this in an interview. The purses awarded $4 million to the individual winner and the winning team split $3million. If you won both in the same week you walked away with $4,750,000. That's a lot more than any PGA event so the purses definitely mattered.Purses dont matter `on LIV tour because players are guaranteed money. Doesn’t matter whether you win or not.
The team concept and party atmosphere for LIV are what made it interesting. It did a lot better Internationally because it filled a void. The PGA elevated and Major events are great and always will be. Now they will fill in the lesser events(John Deere, Zurich etc) with LIV team events(May be renamed?) and players will be able to play in both if they choose. It's like a tour within a tour. The purses for the PGA events will grow as well to at least match the LIV purses so the players are about to make a lot more money from tournament winnings. In the end it will mean better tournaments with stronger fields for more of the year and a lot more international exposure.
