The Golf Thread

I, too, have played in the snow and torrential rain in the past. I'm just unwilling to do it any more.

right now, with the amount I've been able to play lately, I wouldn't either. Doesn't mean I'm ready to rule it out altogether. I actually have been in the market for a good all purpose rain suit and while the prices are almost double, I'm considering going the golf suit route solely because of comfort and breathability. Plus, it would make playing in the rain in the future much more plausible.

never owned one and likely never will.

working all the outdoor events I have so far and will likely do for the foreseeable future rain or shine, I like to stay dry. with my internship last year we were given Footjoy rainsuits and they beat the heck out of the hot, sweaty and inflexible rubbersuits I've used to stay dry elsewhere. I got to keep all the Polo outfits they gave us last year, but the rain suit had to be returned.

what kinda job do you have bill?

i just got my master's in sports management. I have worked with baseball and basketball teams, marathons, tennis and golf. I am currently looking for the permanent job in my field, and while i'm willing to work in just about any sport, I would greatly prefer something outdoors. Even helped a little with amateur wrestling. I was way out of my comfort zone when I started, but I settled in pretty good I guess. They kept asking me to come back, so I figured that was a good thing.

I shot an 87 and 84 this week. Both were ugly rounds where I couldn't hit the ball in the fairway off the tee for my life, but luckily my short game and putting saved me for the most part. Going to the range this week to work with my woods and driver off the tee to try and get it a little more straight.

I'm with you 100%. I've been forced into playing enough in rain and cold that I have no desire to do it anymore. Basically, if I have to wear more than 2 layers or carry an umbrella, I have no desire to play.

I just had lunch with my Uncle. We are in Clarksville for my nieces graduation, and he took 7 months off after having a surgery and his first two rounds last week we're 72 and a 73.. He's retired and plays almost everyday.

He built a driving range on his property so if he doesn't play, he goes out and hits balls...

I can't wait until I can retire

sitting in the mother freakin' clubhouse waiting out a dang near tornado. I flat smoked a 3 wood into the winds prior to th cloudburst and I swear the ball was coming back at me when it landed. Went about 190.

alright, I've been thinking about this for quite some time... especially since BPV keeps hinting at me needing to get one.

If I get a 2 iron hybrid (i'm looking at the nickent 3dx), how nice is it to hit out of the rough? Sitting on top I can sometimes get under my 17 degree Tight Lies and pop it up around 200. If it's buried I can't hit it at all.

you'll love the 3dx, with the right shaft. Don't play their stock shaft, however. Plays from the rough like an iron, since you have to hit down on it. My buddy hits the nickent 1 hybrid and just stripes it. He uses the blue aldila VS shaft in TX flex. Plays it like I do my 2h, or like about a 7 iron.

All that said, isn't the 3dx the older model? I think that's the one.

sounds good. I can get the 3dx with the V2, Aldila (it doesn't say which one) or the Aldila NV shaft for 99.99 per golfsmith. I obviously need to find it somewhere nearby first so I can hit it and determine if I indeed want the 2 and what shaft I like. the 3dx is the older model, but I'm not ready to double my spending for the new 4dx.

probably using a pro v1 and the backspin got you

Nickent Golf - 3DX DC Hybrid Iron/Wood Graphite

rockbottom golf has it for 79.99

If you can find a couple to try, hit the Adams and a Sonartec also..

thanks for the tip... I've hit some sonartecs and didn't like them. I was already thinking about the trying out some of the adams though and we shall see.

as for the 79.99 nickent, that's with the SR2 shaft and I know I don't want that, bpv just confirmed it for me. Thanks for looking though, i really appreciate it.

Had one of the most enjoyable rounds in some time at Ruggles Ferry today. Good shape, fun layout, and not crowded at all. We paid $42, teed off at 8 o'clock, and never waited to hit one shot. 18 holes in 3:45. I also hit a squeezer 8 iron that marked 12 inches from the hole. . . .as close as I've come to an ace in quite some time. I'll still take a tap in birdie. No warm up and a crappy first two holes; still came in with an 82.

well done. tap in par 3 birdies are the best part of golf.

for my edification, what's a squeezer?

Bill, I love my Bridgestone J33 and hit it wiht the Aldila NV 85x. Great club, neutral flight.

Bridgestone put out some kind of game improvement job last fall that I wouldn't touch. Guarantted hook machine. However, they just put out their new tour model in the J36. Neutral setup, weight and ball flight. It comes stock with the Aldila VS Proto 80 shaft, which is THE new hybrid shaft. For 149, that's the route I would take because you're getting a great clubhead with a top end shaft. The Adams Tour model (wildly popular with better players) comes with the same shaft, but is 200.

I will look at the Bridgestone as well. I actually know a pro shop nearby that has them. The problem is there are only a handful of pro shops left in this area.
