The Golf Thread

got me a free lesson today from a guy at the country club...went out to the range right after and i couldn't believe what a difference he made on my swing in like 10 mins. needless to say, i'm ready to play in the morning.

it might not be that simple, but these rolled faces would suggest it works. I don't know how high you tee it today, but even hitting cuts I tee mine fairly high for these tall sweet spots. I want something low, I just tee it down like my old drivers and move along. If this club doesn't work that way, I'm gonna be a little disappointed.

OK . . . after much intense research from banging hundreds of balls with the Tour Burner, the verdict for me is stop whining and hit it high! :)

The high launch angle takes some getting used to and will probably cause issues in high wind, but the carry distances I am getting out of this Driver are pretty amazing in comparison to my old one.

got it. I was thinking a punch that you squeeze off the turf.
I've always referred to that as the "Pinch". That, of course, is not to be confused with "the heat seeker", "the stinger", "the knockdown" or "the midget ho".

my favorite golf shot is one my buddies and I aptly call the "rabbit raper". You're not necessarily intending to hit that shot though. I'm pretty sure most can figure out what a "rabbit raper" shot is.

so i've done some looking into the hybrids, but I've reached a new problem. I hit the 2 iron about 240-245. I hit the 3 iron 225-230.

There's no way I'm taking out my traditional i3 3 iron that goes about 210. I don't want a club that goes 240, I want a club that goes 220-225. Would I be crazy to play a 3 hybrid and a traditional 3 iron instead of the more logical 2 hybrid and traditional 3? I'm convincing myself that it would be fine to play both 3s, but I just need some help. To me it seems this is like the guys who want to prove they can hit their PW 140. Am I correct?

BTW, is it odd that I hit my driver only about 30 yards further than a hybrid two?

I think it's more important to have a club that goes the yardage you want regardless of it's a 2 or 3 hybrid vs a 3 iron.

hit the club that best complements your game and the courses you play. I hit the 2h because I use it from the tee an enormous amount. It is quite a bit longer than my next shorter club, probably by about 25 yards, but I'm just not gonna leave many approach shots in that range. If I need something in between, I'll try to manipulate the shot or choke up a decent amount.

If there is a negative to all the new technology in the clubs and balls it's that it has taken most of the shotmaking out of the game. Now instead of choking down or playing a cut to take off a little distance, everybody just swings the same way every time with a different club and assumes that is the way to play.

Pelz drives me crazy telling everybody to carry 4 wedges and swing waist high on every shot.

He's made alot of money doing it

speaking of short games, have you guys seen the heat in the greens at the Memorial. Fastest I've seen besides Augusta. They are unreal.

I saw DLIII hit a downhill 6 footer yesterday, and he barely tappped it. The putt looked like it was going to stop 3 ft from the hole, then it sped up, burned the left edge, and went 5 feet pass the hole

played nine this evening. Started out 1 over through 4, then it got disastrous. Some HS or middle school team had a 6-some in front of us and they all teed off and were letting us play through. Nothing major, but there was a little intimidation of hitting with all them plus their coach watching. There is water 15 yards ahead of me due left of the women's and senior tee boxes that come into play on the next hole. Well I go up to hit my tee shot and my partner warns me that there is someone in the water. Lo and behold some old guy with long hair and glasses was searching for lost balls and it scared the crap out of me. I blame it on fear of hitting him, but I proceeded to crush a tee shot well right of the fairway and into the woods. Took two shots to get out of and then I was in the bunker. Tripled a freaking par 5. Bogeyed the long par 4 that was next, doubled the next par 5, bogey on a 194 yd par 3, double on the closing par 4 thanks to getting stuck in the sand. I've never had the wheels fall off like that before.

Out of curiosity, what do you all find to be the best way to clean your clubs? I'm always looking for better ideas.

I keep a wet golf towel, during the round and clean as I go. Then after a round, I'll clean the grips with warm water, and occasionaly rubbing alcohol

I actually have a small wire shoe brush hooked to my bag that I use to keep the grooves clean.

I tried the wet towel thing (actually i'd wet the bottom half of the towel and keep the top dry), but I've found a little spit on the club and using the wire brush works just as well. I keep an old towel attached to the bag for the clubs and new one either just wrapped around the clubs or on the bag to wipe off my hands and sometimes my face if i'm sweaty.

I made the mistake of practicing today for an extended period of time for the first time in several months. I machine gunned so many balls that I could barely stand up straight when it was over.
