If Texas wins the Big 12, will the selection committee use the head to head match up earlier in the season as a basis for the final number 1 seed? Texas did win rather convincingly on a neutral court.

I think our RPI gets us a #1 seed. I think it goes UNC Overall #1, Memphis, UCLA, and Tennessee. Texas and Kansas are both going to be #2 seeds I believe with Duke and G-Town being the other two. I think I share the same sentiment with Torch on this one.

I don't see how Texas gets a 1 seed over us even if they win... they'll still have 5 losses compared to our 4 AND our RPI, SOS combination.

It's easy to focus on these late season conference tourneys becasue that's what is right in front of us, but the committee has repeatedly stated that they look at these the same as reg season games. With that being said, Tennessee will have 10-2 in last 12 games, #1 RPI/SOS, and road/neutral wins over six tourney teams (Gonzaga, Memphis, Xavier, West Virginia, Miss St., Western KY) and an undefeated home record. I'll be suprised if we are not a #1 seed regardless of the Big 12 tourney result.

Any chance the unusual circumstances surrounding our tournament are taken into account? Nah...I'm reaching

I see the Big 12 winner getting the nod....

I'm quite certain he wouldn't answer my first question. Coach Wooden, how easy was it to recruit whenyou has access to mobster Sam Gilbert's checkbook?

With character issues influencing your opinion of coach Wooden, it's comical that you think so highly of Billy G. I guess that all depends on how you view alcoholism and driving drunk.

Your opinion is noted and, as usual, disregarded.

So drinking alcohol=worse than getting involved with the mob... I guess it's a good thing Michael Corleone wasn't an alcoholic.

Listen, I don't like BG either, but he doesn't have a single DUI conviction.

Drinking it is not the issue. Driving while drunk is. It is common knowledge that Billy G has gotten out of a few DUI's.

are you a caricature or something. by almost all accounts, Wooden's greatness is tied directly to cheating in a big way. BCG has his issues, but they're not really in the same league.

I'm not taking up for Wooden. By all means, I believe he did underhanded things too. I'm just pointing out the fact that Hat seems to overlook some character issues when it comes to Billy G. With his wild social life, this man shouldn't be in a position to influence young mens lives.

This is the worst kind of moralizing. There is such a thing as compartmentalizing, and any good program should be able to see that you want a fundamentals guy, or a motivator, or a strategist--these are the traits you should care about; whether they enjoy wearing nylons on the side, or buy unpasteurized milk on the down-lo are concerns of a different and silly kind, as are most character evaluations when your goal is to create a successful program.

Apparently, helping mold these 18 year olds into men isn't important anymore. I'd like a coach who could be a rolemodel as well.

Wooden's cheating directly influenced the product he put on the court.

Billy's drinking and driving is not something to take pride in, but it doesn't have a direct impact on wins and losses.

If you're measuring those men on the character with which they ran/run their programs, what they do away from basketball shouldn't really make a difference.

it's the same moralizing that ran Coach Knight from IU, but there is nobody in the country who has done as much for the 18 year old men in his fold.

It's not that it lacks importance, it's that it's not a requirement of a coach, nor should it be. It's freakin' basketball, they're freakin' 18 year olds already--they emulate peers more than narrow authority figures. I mean plus it's also genes, and Nature over Nurture is one of the easier disputes to resolve.
