The Hire Charlie Strong Thread

Gruden, Strong, Stoops, Peterson, Patterson, Sweeney, Taggart, Shannon, Davis, or Smart. I'll take any one of those.

Posted this in another thread but.....

Would look pretty bad on his part after the Jim Rome interview about 3 weeks ago where he stated he would coach for less money at L'ville. He said he would stay there as long as they will have him. Gave him his first job. Said he would not leave for any other job.
Those are nice sentiments, but it sounds a lot like your normal coach speak when their names come up regarding coaching vacancies.

Don't know of any coach that doesn't state they are happy where they are. Would be stupid not to. If things go sour, and they don't get the new job, they are in hot water with their current employer.

Also, after looking over the opponents that Louisville has on their schedule, it is a little sketchy to put so much stock in a coach whose team has only beaten really bad teams (except the UNC game). So, in that regard, I do see why some others have criticized the prospect.

Nevertheless, I would have rather had Strong, when he was Florida's DC, than Dooley, any day of the week. Plus, it's all relative. We are looking at it from the angle of the SEC. He's coaching a team that was struggling mightily in that conference. Now they are on top of it.

I know Strong is undefeated this year but which if these 2012 wins is so impressive that it warrants us hiring him? srs question

I thought Strong said recently that there's no way he'd leave Louisville.

I'm sure he had no offers at the time that statement was made or else the offer was for a lesser value than what he is currently receiving from Louisville. Saban said he wasn't leaving the Dolphins as well.

It's about turning a program around. He's done it. Can he do it at this level? I think he could and would love to find out.

OMG no he hasn't! :eek:lol: Beating a bunch of 1 win teams is not turning a program around...It's called padding the season...He plays anybody worth a hoot he'll get murdered.

Charlie inherited a mess from Crapthorpe, you can say well he only beats the big east. But he also does a great job recruiting in the big east. If you dont think he could recruit at Tennessee and the sec, you might be crazy. Say he only wins in the big east, how was this team in the big east before he got there? Obviously he turned them around. Gruden is a pipe dream. So out of the realistic choices, Strong would be very very high on the list for me.
