My father was discharged from the Marines in 1942 after he injured his foot in basic training. The discharge papers said it was caused by flat feet. This was a time when of course they needed everyone they could get. So I guess people with that problem could be a liability in combat.My oldest brother got out of Vietnam and the military for having flat feet. To this day I really don't know what flat feet are and why they would preclude someone from serving but I glad he didn't have to go. My Father and other brother weren't so lucky.
