The Liberal Argument for a Higher Minimum Wage

This may not apply to anything, but for what it's worth, I think a U.S. Student deciding to go to a carribean medical school is the most misinformed decision anyone can make.

I don't know man. After four years you tell the parents you know what, I think I'm going to be a bonefish guide.

Right. Would you rather be worked on by the top of the class from the University of Peru or the guy who was last in his class at UT?

It depends on where they did their residency. But generally, IMG's don't land nice residencies.

Even the experience is overrated from what I heard. It's nice vacationing there, but the facilities and Internet are just awful.

Meh. If you're in your 20's on a tropical island and worried about Internet connection you're doing it wrong.

Amenities can suck, sure, but you get used to it.

So, funny story.

Walked into a Hardee's and see a self-ordering station at the front. You use it and you get a 10% discount on your meal.
Good luck getting $15 an hour lol.

I mean really this isn't rocket science. All you need to do is turn the register around. It's made for a barely functioning 16 year old to work it. A college educated person will be some kind of wizard on one.

Today the governor of New Jersey Phillip Murphy announced that his state will be raising minimum wage to $15.00 by January 1, 2024.

An Alternative Headline could read....

"Thousands of New Jersey workers will soon be out of a job, thanks to new minimum wage increase!"

I'm fine with states setting their own MW, no need for a federal one.

I agree, but them not acting like people won't lose jobs because of the increase is ridiculous.

IDK, probably not a lot of people in NJ making less than $15h now. They only thing this will really accomplish is giving the union members a raise, most union contracts have wage escalators tied to the minimum wage.

In 1964, one hour of minimum wage labor would buy you about an ounce of silver. Today, it gets you half an ounce.

Not really that hard to make a justification for higher wages.

I thought they were based on the market for labor? Supply and demand type stuff.
