The Masters Tournament

This is true & the caddie should be aware of all the warnings & help him. Not saying the caddie could have prevented it but there are situations when he has to become more than a bag toter & a yardage giver. This was one of those situations. Bet it’s safe to say that Guan will never have that penalty accessed against him again

but again, that's the fewest warnings I've ever seen given before being assessed a penalty in the PGA. Add to the fact that play was at an absolute standstill on multiple locations throughout the course, I still think it's a ludicrous ruling.

ESPN literally placed a ball in each divot to show the difference. Between that and Tiger purposely describing the process as giving him an advantage has me rethinking my original stance. I'm not so sure he shouldn't be DQ'd. There was considerable room between the two shots and it was nothing but perfect grass all around his original spot.

Sure he did. He's golf's cash cow. They enforce one rule & but not another. Double standards

I don't have a problem with the ruling, as long as they apply the rule similarly going forward. If this is some no name player, he's on a flight home.

but, and I could be wrong, my understanding of the ruling is for making a mistake in the rules. While this might seem small, going two yards back so that he wouldn't hit the flag stick again is purposefully giving yourself an advantage. The more I watched and listened, I don't see this as applying the reason for the amendment in the old rules.

I still think it's dumb that they don't put a rules official on each group at a major.

Bullcrap. Woods should be out. Anyone else would have been sent packing.

Disagree. However, packing up and going home might be his best play at this point. Given that he's now only -1 and the winning score is likely to be in the -10 to -12 range, he's going to have to play out of his mind to have a shot at winning. Also, DQing himself would be a good PR play and would appease the group of people who for whatever reason still want Tiger's head on a stick. If it had been Fred Couples who did this yesterday, everyone would be saying it was just a misunderstanding and that he should be allowed to continue. A lot of people won't grant Tiger that same leniency because they feel he gets unnecessary favoritism, or still dislike him for cheating on his wife.

Aren't there rules officials all around the course though? It just seems strange that as it happened, nobody, not an on course official, not Feherty in the tower, not Tiger's caddy, not his fellow competitors, raised an eyebrow at how he handled the drop. At the very least, I think the caddy would have said something to him, and if he had responded in some manner that indicated he was purposely circumventing the rules, it would have been picked up by a microphone.

Why should be dq himself after the rules officials didn't?

Of course chamblee is saying he should dq himself he was saying the ball hitting the pin was his fault for being too aggressive.

He is the skip Bayless of golf channel to get everybody riled up and be anti tiger.

Conversely, Rick Reilly, the biggest Tiger slurper not named volinar, is also questioning if Tiger should withdraw.

Like I said, his best move at this point might be to withdraw. It might not really be fair IMO, but as someone who's unlikely to contend for the win, it might be in his best interest to pack it in and generate some goodwill with the fans.

Tiger I don't think did anything wrong purposefully.

It's really on the rules officials.

Either way I wouldn't dq myself.

TIger got hosed:
1. was Penalized based on a post round interview.
2. his shot was deemed acceptable prior to his round ending.
3. not all players are on TV (this was brought on by a fan on the call in line) and therefore aren't subject to the same visibility and therefore scrutiny.
4. he is still playing because he is playing within the rules. The new rule in 2012 says that if the player signs an incorrect card that had previously been ruled acceptable, then the player isn't DQ'd.

Bottom line, Tiger doesn't need to talk to anyone anymore after a round, wait until the tournament is over. I watched the shot, there was mention made that he only needed to stay within 2 club lengths to remain legal. Prime example of the PGA not even understanding it's own rules.

Where in the hell do you get this idea. I think he got screwed (see above post). He has come back in 36 holes from 6 back, I think 8 players have come back from 5 back and the biggest deficit was 8 back.
