The Masters Tournament

Where in the hell do you get this idea. I think he got screwed (see above post). He has come back in 36 holes from 6 back, I think 8 players have come back from 5 back and the biggest deficit was 8 back.

I'm just saying that with the likely winning score to be somewhere around -10 to -12, he's going to have to play two of the best rounds of his life back to back to truly be in contention. Can he do that, sure. Is it likely? Not really.

5 strokes back isn't that bad w 2 days to go. Realistically his mind prob won't be in a good place and he won't contend.

Tiger I don't think did anything wrong purposefully.

It's really on the rules officials.

Either way I wouldn't dq myself.

Based off the golf thread you seem to know the game quite well. When he specifically says he went back two yards and took some off of it to make sure it didn't happen again, how is that not done purposefully?

I don't think I'd DQ myself either, but it would be a brilliant PR move by him

TIger got hosed:
1. was Penalized based on a post round interview.
2. his shot was deemed acceptable prior to his round ending.
3. not all players are on TV (this was brought on by a fan on the call in line) and therefore aren't subject to the same visibility and therefore scrutiny.
4. he is still playing because he is playing within the rules. The new rule in 2012 says that if the player signs an incorrect card that had previously been ruled acceptable, then the player isn't DQ'd.

Bottom line, Tiger doesn't need to talk to anyone anymore after a round, wait until the tournament is over. I watched the shot, there was mention made that he only needed to stay within 2 club lengths to remain legal. Prime example of the PGA not even understanding it's own rules.

All the top players get interviewed and there's no such thing as a two club length rule here. It is specifically as close as possible. A. That clearly didn't happen, b. He clearly dropped where he did to help himself based on his own words. He hosed himself. Had he just said I took my drop, took a little off of it and saved bogey, we wouldn't be talking right now.

Well be purposefully gave himself an easier lie I think that's clear. I just don't think he knowingly knew that was against the rules.

Drops are confusing as there are a few options. During the live coverage the commentators even had it wrong as to what his options were.

I think his comment while incriminated him actually shows he didn't knowingly break a rule. He was trying to use a rule to his advantage and got it wrong. So in his own mind he never did Anythjng wrong. 2 holes later he is told it's being reviewed and then no penalty.

So he thinks I never broke a rule in the first place, officials reviewed it and said it was fine so why shouldnt he talk at that point.

I guess the fact that I spent time as a rules official has me jaded, but I don't see how Tiger doesn't know that rule.

What's with the over zealous officiating this year in golf?? I don't remember this ever being an issue...ever. Did they hire SEC football officials for part time summer work??

Conversely, Rick Reilly, the biggest Tiger slurper not named volinar, is also questioning if Tiger should withdraw.

Are you serious? Reillyhas killed Tiger on numerous issues. He was just acting like an offended little old lady last week talking about Tiger's new Nike ad.

Golf has always had it wrong IMO when they go to videotape and change results based on fans calling in hours later.

I'd just be interested to meet the kind of person who so thoroughly knows the rules of golf that they actually see a professional make a mistake on TV, track down the number to notify someone and take it upon themselves to uphold the sanctity of the game by actually reporting it. Must be somebody with a LOT of time on their hands.

It is dumb. I mean what's the number even?

I just heard a guy on the PGA Tour channel on XM incredulously ask the same question. He said he was in the media and had a killer contact list full of administrative people, network execs and players but he had no clue who to call if he saw an illegal drop.

And that's why he was assessed the penalty which I agree with.

No reason he should dq.

I think the ruling is stupid, but I really don't get why he wasn't DQ'd. According to what happened, he has now signed an incorrect scorecard.

It's because it was reviewed initially during his round and deemed okay. So be was told he was okay.
