The more I listen to Coach Sal the more I realize

Im also very excited about Sal. But lets not forget our defense ranked 28th nationally overall last season. ...

In my opinion, last years defense was "good", but the SEC requires a "great" defense. I'm excited and hoping that coach Sal's defense can be great. I love an attacking defensive scheme!

Now I see why I never come to the Football Forum. Back to the Recruiting Forum where people are sensible and don't get their panties in a wad about a disagreement.

You're right. . . instead they get their panties in a wad over high school boys' tweeters.

Might generate some heat, but I think Wilcox did reasonably well considering last year's offense was one of the worst the SEC has seen in years, and in the running for worst UT offense of all-time. After Bray and Hunter were out, we just flat-out didn't have any good, or even decent players on offense, except Darick and even he was inconsistent. We were bottom 30 in the country in turnover margin and TOP in the latter 2/3 of the season. You'll eventually get overrun by any team that's even halfway decent if you can't maintain possession.

All that said, I think Wilcox got an unduly bad rap. But such is the nature of pre-season hype.

I think that if Wilcox was still here, you'd find a LOT of people agreeing with you.......

BTW, I DO agree with you. I think the guy was one of the best coaches on our staff last year and I could make a reasonable argument that he was THE best.

It was mentioned earlier, but the guy made the best with what he had over his two years here.

I think he's going to do well in the future and I fully expect him to be a HC within the next 2yrs, 3 tops.

That Justin Wilcox was way in over his head here at Tennessee. This is the first time in a long time that I've been this excited about a coach. Sal is the real deal, and I CAN'T WAIT to see the product on the field!!

Go Vols!

He had me fired up 3 years ago at a coaches clinic even though he coached for the enemy then.

Dude, he couldn't scheme us a win vs a WR playing QB for a team we hadn't lost to in 26 years.........don't give me that crap about what he had to work with. Our technique was terrible - we bump tackled, our DBs routinely were caught out of position, it goes on and on.

This! Bad angles and not wrapping up drove me crazy! Wilcox looked like he was on Nerve pills in the press box. Sal seems to have passion! GBO!!!

Well said. Couldn't agree more with what you said.

Yeah the "bend don't break" attitude you described would have worked a lot better if we had a consistent offense. That's essentially what the Colts did when they were winning 12 games a year and the Super Bowl.

thats why they have one of the worst defenses in the league

Are you F'ing kidding me?? It's not like UK lit up the scoreboard on us--they scored 10 POINTS.

While we didn't play lights out on D--we were in that game up until the very end b/c of them.

It was the offense that didn't do sh** that day....we didn't even score until the FOURTH QUARTER.

My brain is mush right now so I don't recall specifics, but I do remember saying multiple times that if it wasn't for the D, we would never have been in that game.

Peyton Manning said that Wilcox's Defensive scheme was sophisticated and cutting-edge. If the master defensive student says it, then I believe it. That said, I'm excited about Sal.

PS. Fade, once again you are speaking like a true moron.

wilcox had a defensive line that wasn't very good, freshman linebackers, no shut down corner, and safety play that would bring a twinkle to any offensive coordinator's eyes.

yeah, it was wilcox's fault

Also if we had some resemblance of an offense last year our D might have been ranked higher. I think Wilcox did a fairly good job given our lack of depth on defense and our incapability on offense.

I agree..I think Wilcox had the team going in the right direction....I didnt believe we played with emotion last year as a team...but they where still young....age makes a difference...but if you ever played defense its played with emotion and I love what Sal brings to the team...the feeling of a winner!!!

This. Guess I should not be surprised that even a gator is smarter than fade

A DC's attitude rubs off on his players.. Wilcox is a good X and O guy IMO.. very smart and will be very successful.

But in the SEC you need someone who chews on a piece of steal and spits nails back out.. CSS gives me that impression, Wilcox gives me the impression that he wants to go smoke a bowl and sing kum-baya.

I do not think anyone in their right mind can blame any loss over the past couple years to Wilcox though, he just like the other coaches were playing with only half a deck.

That's right....your opinion....based on nothing more than scrimmages and spring drills.

And your opinion is, you would rather have the moron that couldn't stop a WR playing QB, against KENTUCKY none the less? Maryville could have done that!

Opinion not just based on spring drills you retard. Have you reviewed his resume? He didn't come from Boise St.

You ever watch a John Chavis defense?

I think I may have once or twice..

His defense only gave up 252 YPG last season, only to be topped by Bama.

If he a running a Bend don't break then everyone else in the country is running a we dont give a **** how many yards you get, go for it.

I agree. Bottom line: I would MUCH rather have Sal representing UT.
