The murder of Ahmaud Arbery

It is income and location not race. When income and population density are similar crime rates are the same across different races.

No I got his point with his "black on black crime" bs.

There is no such thing as black on black crime. Its just crime. Not unless white crime is white on white crime.
I disagree .... because there sure as hell is white on black crime

What’s your take on the video from the point where Arbery runs around the truck and confronts the guy holding the shotgun..... until he’s shot and falls in the road?

According to the ME (Dr. Donoghue at the GBI Crime Lab in Savannah. I've been to postmortems he did. He's top notch), there were three shots. One grazed (deep) his right wrist; one to the lower chest; one to the upper left chest. I am guessing here...but based on a frame-by-frame of the video, I think the first shot occurred as Arbery was passing the right front corner of the truck...that's the shot that hit his wrist...and it's anyone's guess as to whether Travis fired at a "charging" Arbery, or Arbery charged after the shot. Not that it matters, and I've already made my position clear with regards to this shooting.

FYI, you'll notice I went quiet for a while there. There was a local rally / run for Ahmaud this afternoon at 5 pm. My wife and her sister wanted to go, and I agreed to accompany them. Until my phone rang and I was asked to come out and help provide event security for the rally / run. So that's where I was. My wife and her sister were there to show support for the family, and I was there to make sure they were allowed to do so in peace. Not one hint of trouble. And there were almost as many "white" people there as there were "people of color". It was just people, a community, united in a public show of support for a family that suffered a tragic loss.

I've no desire to engage with those on this board, or in this thread, who have to make everything about race. Until and unless we rid our souls of that poison, we will never erase that dividing line. If you want to listen to that garbage, or converse with it, that's your choice. As for me, I will see it no more.

Hate is a destructive emotion that eventually turns back on those who embrace it.

Long day. I'm tired, and working day shift tomorrow. Y'all keep safe.

Wow look at you. You rode through the hood once and you know a black guy or two. Congratulations. You now are an expert on the black community apparently. You also know more than people who have lived and studied it. You are some super brain genius like Trump I guess. lol

Correlation is not causation buddy.

You are completely ignorant of or blind to the systemic issues that cause violence worldwide and in America.
Both of you have valid points, just move on. There are statistics that back up what each of you are saying. Truth is in the middle. It isn't a race issue, is about making poor decisions that keep you poor and less likely to thrive and succeed. Both black and white people suffer from these issues.

Do you know what shot he was using? You think the dad in the back of the truck does any time?

If I understand correctly, and Greywolf can correct me if I'm wrong, the father was party to the aggravated assault so also culpable for the death, which means felony murder. I don't think it matters that he didn't fire the shots. He'll face the same charges.

At least that's my understanding of the law.

The dad is gonna live with the fact that he hollered for his son to come help him chase somebody down, and he ended up killing a man. That would be worse than being in jail to me, seeing my son in prison because of actions I took.

Horrible argument. MLK wasn't white, does that mean his message couldn't resonate with white people? Personally, I think you make too much out of skin color. At the end of the day, we're all still people. The idea that people cannot understand each other, care for one another, or help each other is part of what keeps racism so alive in this country. And it comes from both sides. Most people don't carry hate in their heart. Most people, IMO, want to help, want to change the world for the better, but they have no idea how.
I'd love to change the world,
but I don't know what to do.

Amen to that. I try to live by that saying about "Live your life so that your pastor doesn't have to lie about you at your funeral." Lord knows I've made my mistakes, but I try to never make the same one twice.

So there might be a few lies told, but they're small ones...

Round 2 of my thoughts and opinions: (not facts). sorry for the novel.

Generally speaking, I am conservative because I never think the best thing is for the government to try and fix our problems. In most cases they make things worse.

Democrats: they have got to stop making everything a racial issue and they have got to stop assuming that best solution is to simply throw government funded $’s at every problem, especially black and white families living in poverty. It’s ok to help folks get back on their feet but Democrats need more constructive and longer term solutions to reduce crime and welfare and help people become productive citizens and have pride in becoming contributors to society. I think it insults black and white people’s intelligence and pride to keep saying “you poor and helpless people who aren’t capable of doing anything on your own, you need the big ole government to handle everything for you”. There appear to be more and more African Americans moving to the conservative side because they are tired of being insulted by the philosophy of “you aren’t good enough to be successful on your own”.

Republicans: I believe the majority are not racists but I think they need to try harder to show a little more compassion and spend more time just listening. In other words, PROVE that you care about the well being of all races. Yes, I know the message is that “we don’t see color and everyone is equal with an equal opportunity to work hard and pave their own way”. Yes, I know MLK also also said he wanted to live in a world without color. Very true. However, it is not fair and also very arrogant for white people (myself included) to say they understand what it’s like to live in the inner city and what it is like to live among gangs and drugs and to try and survive every day. Ricky- sorry, you have no idea. We arrogantly say “you have as much opportunity as anyone else - just suck it up, work hard and you can successfully immediately”. Not quite that simple Just like the Dems, Republicans also need to listen more and come up with better solutions other than - “you brought this on yourself- just get the education, job, etc everyone else gets and your problems will be solved. Easy as pie. Sorry - it’s just not this easy. There is some deep seated pain/hurt, hopelessness, breakdown of families, drugs, violence etc that isn’t going to be solved without listening and caring. And, yes, let’s be honest - there HAS been racism and their continues to be racism. We can’t just pretend it doesn’t exist at all (just like DEMs think racism is the root of every problem).

In summary, both sides need to listen a more and not assume they understand the other side.
You are wasting your time. Sorry. The majority of these people cannot be reached on either side. The sad part of it all is that these people are so busy fighting with each other along party/racial/social-economic lines, that they don't realize that they too are being "ghetto-ized" by the same system that has been plaguing the black community. The black community was simply the testing grounds. Once "The Powers That Be" perfected their craft, then they were able to hit the larger society/white community. Now you are starting to see the family structure of the white community begin to unravel. Once the family unravels, you no longer have a community. You no longer have peace, order and prosperity. Violence, disorder and poverty fills in the void.

You cannot. At least not in our generation, or likely the one to follow. I read a very interesting article about a year ago, and I don't remember where, that talked about how the African-American community essentially had two full generations of males in prison or dead, and that as a result, the streets were raising the next two generations. Single mothers, gangs become their family, etc. Took me a while to get through the standard "they brought this on themselves" mentality to start to see that we all own this problem.

We can debate that subject, and the Arbery shooting, from A to Z and it won't change the simple fact that for whatever faults he may have had...for whatever previous criminal acts he may have committed...the circumstances of his death are obvious to any unbiased observer, and demand simple, unbiased justice.

Take away the skin color, and let justice be blind, for once.

All you have to do is go back to the 1960's. This was the worst of times, the best of times and the worst of times again for the black community. The black community started off the decade with Jim Crow, began to gain civil rights victories in the middle to late portion of the decade, and then replaced Jim Crow with Great Society/Democratic enslavement by the end of the decade.

I've said on here plenty of times... Democratic policies have destroyed the black community and the destruction was so thorough and complete that it laid the groundwork for the eventual destruction of this country. All you have to do is destroy the family. Make husbands and fathers obsolete and make govt the new father/husband. Get the men involved in wars overseas and recreational drugs at home. Rob the middle class of their wealth and subsidize those that do not contribute to society. Have the people captivated with trivial matters like sports, entertainment, gossip, consumerism, narcissism...

Kudos, as there are a lot here who haven’t wrapped their head around that point yet

According to his attorney, guy who took the video has taken a lie detector test that shows he was unarmed and hadn’t had prior conversation with the McMichaels or anyone else regarding the situation.

lie detectors don't mean anything. They are BS and that's why they aren't admissible in court

Pretty sure everybody that’s ever seen a cop show knows that. The point is that most assumed that the video guy was part of the posse which he may not have been. On one hand, it’s strange that he just happened to be there. On the other hand, if he knew a confrontation involving guns was planned, he probably wouldn’t have been so close or shooting video.

It is interesting to see "new" facts to the case. Just like the text the police sent to the homeowner showing that there was multiple incidents over months, and that the McMichaels and neighbors clearly knew about them

If you were coming home and saw a guy standing in the back of a pick up truck, chasing a guy running down the street, wouldn't you be tempted to pull out your phone? Who would believe you without video?
