The murder of Ahmaud Arbery

Why did the cops show up?

I can answer that.

That area is known for drug sales, prostitution, and property crimes. You know...like your average truck stop. I used to work that area. But there's a way to work it, and a way to not work it.

There's no situation that a good cop can't make worse. This video being "Exhibit A".

Well, not really a fan of property crimes. I think those should be actively enforced. But trying to enforce these silly azzed drug laws and prostitution/vices is what erodes away at our freedoms. In both drug selling and prostitution two people are engaging in commerce and making an exchange.

My body. My choice.

and before you say it...

"If you don't like the laws, change the laws..."

and

"I'm just doing my job and enforcing the law..."

I have zero issue with legalization of prostitution, weed, lsd, and a few other drugs.

But there are some street drugs out there right now that make crack look like water. These engineered drugs are very cheap too and would go straight to the kids. I get kids can get it now but it would be alot easier if it was legal.

The first officer was fine in his actions, the one who tried to use the taser is poorly trained and was scared that he was going for a weapon when he likely was trying to pull his stupid pants up. Which is interesting since both McMichael and the other guy stated Arbery looked like he was going for a weapon during that other alleged incident with him.

Arbery's reaction seems to be one of defensive anger a lot when he is being questioned over doing something wrong
Is it okay to shoot someone dead because you think they're going for a weapon? Especially if you haven't seen a weapon? Even more especially when it's two non-LEOs with zero authority acting in an illegal way?

The homeowner has stated nothing was ever taken from the home under construction. No burglary. The McMichael's had no authority to make a citizen's arrest since at most, only a misdemeanor had occurred.

Not sure what you find interesting as you keep trying to find theories to justify their actions. Their actions were illegal and unjustifiable. Not sure why you continue to ignore that. So what if Arbery had a criminal past? You act as if that somehow justifies what was done. It doesn't. In no way does Arbery's past exonerate the McMichael's actions. Intentional or not, their stupidity led to killing a man.

I didn’t say it justifies anything. I said it was interesting because it’s evidence of the McMichael’s and polices mindset about Arbery and the issue and because it destroys the earlier narrative of “McMichael had no clue of previous burglaries”

There were never any burglaries at the house being renovated per the home owner.

Thinking that someone is going for a weapon can put someone in fear of death or serious injury. It's up to a jury to decide whether that was a reasonable fear. Videos like the ones being leaked now may help convince potential jurors that shooting Aubrey was justified. Seems like a media campaign.

IIRC it was the neighbor with the Hispanic surname who the homeowner asked to watch the place and that guy in turn contacted the McMichaels. This case is not going to be decided based on agency law. It's probably going to a jury and the question will be whether Aubrey was a scary enough person for the McMichaels to be armed when they went after him. The videos that came out yesterday will be enough for some people to say that the world is better off without Aubrey and if one of those people gets into the jury, it's over.

The actions of the McMichael's leading up to the event weren't justified, so I'm not sure how killing an unarmed man could be considered justified. And hunting down someone you "think" is armed is a job left to the actual authorities. You don't grab your guns and look to initiate a firefight in your neighborhood. Being stupid is not a viable defense.

The McMichael's don't get to decide who gets to live or die. If Arbery was that "scary", they should have stayed in their home and let the police respond. They don't get to take the law into their own hands then say "oops, we screwed up" and get away with it. They took stupid actions, now they get to face the consequences.

That question assumes that the McMichaels had the right to go after him, armed or not. They didn't.

Why is it that this only applies to one party in this situation? 🤔
Cause one party is dead?
dunno.gif

Are you suggesting that the consequences of walking around an open construction site include being chased by gun-toting vigilantes and shot dead in the street?

You guys are REALLY hung up on the jogging piece. I didn’t realize the punishment for jogging was death!

Ricky's point is that Arbery pretty clearly wasn't jogging on the day in question. It's fine in as much as the media narrative is skewed. It changes nothing insofar as justifying his killers' actions.

Anyone care to explain the relevance of Arbery's past as it relates to his death?

It's possible that Greg McMichael knew about some of it, if not all. McMichael had previously investigated Arbery when it was still his job to do so.

But that doesn't come close to justify arming up and chasing a dude with their truck.

Yeah, unless I'm missing something, some of these posters seem like they think they're making a point....
