The murder of Ahmaud Arbery

Justice served.

Have not read the entire thread, but is there an explanation of why there are four counts of felony murder, but only one body?

I don't know about that. Bill Clinton released a public statement and spoke frequently about the O.J, Simpson trial and verdict in 1995.

I only remember Clinton addressing the verdict and how he hoped it did’t hurt race relations. I don’t remember him talking about the case at all before the verdict.

He definitely spoke about the Mark Fuhrman n-word taped revelations, prior to the verdict. That was as racially charged a case as we will ever see.

More of a baboon. And not a very intelligent one at that.

On point of the thread the jury reached the right verdict. They were all clearly guilty. However could someone explain how there are three counts of felony murder in a case where there was one victim? Im sure it’s just some specific application of GA law not doubting it just doesn’t make sense to me.

Just looked it up. Felony murder in Georgia is when a homicide occurs while committing a felony. The accused must be guilty of the underlying felony to be guilty of felony murder. There will be a count of felony murder for each underlying felony.

Thank you for the explanation. As Breathe said I believe Ash has explained it also.

I think this country has taken a dangerous turn in the POTUS commenting about every high profile case. It started with Obama. He opened the door for this crap. Trump did it. Now Biden is at it. It's hard seeing the genie going back in the bottle. Something else Obama started that is detrimental to this country.
I don't think it's inappropriate for POTUS to comment on a trial as long as he waits until it's over.

Yes it is. He's sorta picking winners and losers which is divisive.

POTUS comments on situation where a local DA obstructs a police investigation into three guys hunting down and killing another guy because they thought he committed a crime, which almost led to murderers going free if not for their own attorney’s arrogance and ineptitude.

There’s definitely still work left to do.

Since race relations have been ratcheted up to an 11 what do people expect from here on out?
Probably more of the same. We're being divided as a society in preparation for a larger war. Be harder to fight externally if we're all at each others throats internally.

You think so? I mean the jury would have been given that evidence. Or do you mean if they had never taken or deleted that video?
There weren't any arrests made in the killing of Ahmaud Arbery for two months, because of a prosecutor named Jackie Johnson, who had worked with Greg McMichael. I think he means that charges would never have been filed without the video being made public. Johnson has been indicted. She should be disbarred.

That seems to only be the case, if the other side wins. In keeping with that same rationale, I thought the system of elections in either purple or blue states was rigged against Republicans ... but then Glenn Youngkin (R) defeated Terry McAuliffe (D) for Governor of Virginia three weeks ago. What happened?
I enjoy watching you justify the ignorance by tying it to others unrelated, but equal ignorance.

Interesting conclusion since:

1) murderers did not go free
2) the dumbass in the White House had nothing to do with #1.

But the system of justice didn't work as fluidly as it should. A District Attorney, Jackie Johnson, tried to hinder a police investigation and shield a friend and former colleague of hers from prosecution. Primarily due to video documentation, the system worked in spite of itself. Hopefully, Johnson will be convicted and disbarred. She deserves it.

Ah, I remember something about that now that you remind me, thank you.

Whether it worked as "fluidly as it should" or not according to someone's opinion proves nothing in a definitive way to support the poster's inferred conclusion the justice system is fundamentally racist or lacking in racial justice. As with virtually all human institutions, there are failures and we must be ever vigilant to protect the institution against actions that undermine it, like for instance the wayward DA. In this case, the system/institution worked as it should and justice prevailed, just like it does most of the time. It did not fail here.

Did it fail in the case of the driver killing six people and injuring 40 when he was out on $1000 bail? Maybe. Again, we have to be vigilant and correct course as needed.

My home county witnessed one of the most brutal lynching rampages in the US in 1918. Stemmed from a black man killing a white farmer, who according to accounts harassed and threatened his killer constantly. Seven people were killed in the ensuing violence. No one was convicted of any crime, in spite of the notorious brutality of some of the attacks.

Skip to the 1990s, same county. Black man shoots and kills a white farmer, a man I knew and, I will add, a likable fellow. However, for whatever reason, he had appointed himself to harass and constantly threaten the black man. Finally went too far, forced the fellow off the road one day and when he snatched open the door of the black man's truck, he was shot dead.

No lynchings took place. There was a trial. And an acquittal. In a rural county that has the unfortunate reputation of having more lynchings than any other county in Georgia.

So when I see and hear people spouting off about how the system is racist and irredeemable, based on my personal experience and knowledge, I tend to think they really do not know what the hell they're talking about. We've come a long, long way.

More than 100 Black Panther Party activists – many wielding loaded AR-15 rifles – protested outside the Glynn County courthouse as the closing arguments were made

The majority were in black combat gear and women as well as men were toting the long guns. Some wore black berets, others were in tactical helmets and goggles
