One time he brought a gun to school. Weird that it said he was 19 at the time, yet was 25 when killed. It says the incident happened in 2012. Eight years ago. Wouldn't that have made him younger than 19, most likely a minor? This man was up to no good, had no business being there, and had a history of causing trouble (bringing guns to school). He made a series of bad decisions that didn’t work out well for him. It’s sad, but it’s life.

Yeah, a mitigating circumstance could be speeding, a busted taillight, tinted windows or driving 5 mph below the limit. Basically, anything that a cop feels at the moment.

Anyway, none of that supports the arguments that have been made that they weren't trying to detain him. And if all you want to do is talk, you don't get out of the truck, shotgun in hand.
Meh, I don't know. These guys went about it the wrong way entirely because they ended up killing the guy. But I'm not so sure a group of citizens without a law enforcement background couldn't have handled this way better. The fact that these guys were former law enforcement clearly says to me that they were weekend Rambos and were itching to pull their triggers and use their guns. While I'm skeptical he was just a guy out for a jog his past and the fact he may be responsible for burglaries in the area do not allow citizens to chase you around neighborhoods with guns. This isn't the wild west.
So to respond you go from your fringe position to the opposite fringe position completely bypassing the middle where consensus among the critical thinking has already been achieved? It's a bold strategy if nothing else.LOL....maybe he was just jogging minding his own business and these Racist Rednecks shot him in cold blood because he’s black. There, is that better
It mentioned he was 19 because he wasn’t a student, he brought a gun to a game with some of his “buddies”One time he brought a gun to school. Just because he doesn't have something on him doesn't mean he didn't steal something an hour or 72 hours before. Come on man, your better than that. Even if he had it wouldn't make a difference here though. If he had stolen anything, then it has somehow been left out of all reports. Surely being found with stolen property would have been an important detail to mention.
911 transcript:
Greg McMichael: “I’m out here at Satilla Shores and there’s a black man running down the street."
911 dispatcher: “I just need to know what he was doing wrong, was he just on the premises and not supposed to be?”
Greg McMichael: “And he’s been caught on the camera a bunch before at night. It’s an ongoing thing out here.”
Interesting, doesn't say he personally witnessed anything criminal immediately before the chase.
You are right. I think what we will likely find out is that the truth is somewhere between these two extremes and that both sides played acted poorly. I'm not ready to call the "jogger" innocent and I think the guys in the trucks were doing what good neighbors and citizens should do, which is watch over their neighborhoods. But obviously, poor decisions by everyone involved lead to this.So to respond you go from your fringe position to the opposite fringe position completely bypassing the middle where consensus among the critical thinking has already been achieved? It screams stupid former cop to me. I personally know a few retired cops and they are more than happy to be retired and have the police work to active uniforms. This guy went cowboy and thought he was more intimidating than he was. And a guy is dead when he should have been in a detectives office answering questions at worst.Meh, I don't know. I agree but I feel like the shooter should have known better given his background. You are right. I wonder how he'd feel if the victim had a legally owned gun on him and shot the guy with the shotgun as he got out of the truck and came around to the front of his truck. Would that be self defense?
None of the articles I've read support McMichael having witnessed something same day. They also don't support him telling the deceased he had called the police. I've read several articles now and cannot find anything to support what has been said. McMichael apparently asked the deceased to stop and said they wanted to talk to him, at which time the son exited the vehicle, shotgun in hand.911 transcript:

Even if they saw him steal something they aren't given authority to stop him. Leave that to the police. Or observe and report. You don't get to deputize yourself. We agree more than we don't, just pointing out some details. But unless they saw him steal something, they had no business trying to pursue or detain him. A citizen's arrest requires imminent knowledge of a crime. They could have followed at a distance to keep an eye on him for the cops, but nothing more.
Or....what if the guy stopped and talked with the armed rednecks and explained that he was just jogging
Jogger: “I was just jogging by when I thought to myself.....hey I might want to buy this place once it’s finished”
Rednecks (who served their community for over 30 years) say, “you mean you’re not trying to rob our neighborhood”
Jogger: “Of course not”
Rednecks: “I apologize, let me call off the police who are in route. Please allow me to invite you in for lunch to show you we are hospitable neighbors. Meet my daughter, Karen”
It’s in the realm of possibilities
