The NO Bobby Petrino Petition

No to Petrino. Don't want anymore Kiffin type baggage. I can just imagine him making home visits and the Mothers and Grandmothers knowing his history and not wanting their kids around him. Good coach....but no thanks. We can do better I think.

Not sure on that opinion...:hi:

here is the way i see it not trying to burst your bubble or anything I do agree with you petrino will get you about 10 wins a year but i do not think he will win a national championship or has he ever won a S.E.C championship don't believe so i would rather have a coach that can have success on both sides of the ball and not just hire a band aid coach because after 4 or 5 years of winning 10 games a year people are going to be saying why cant he ever get over the top and win an s.e.c championship or win a national championship just do not want the man. I know im going to get scorched on this issue but this is what i think on this issue

No. Not because he chases tail. But rather because he's got a track record of leaving teams in poor situations in terms of depth and talent. He left Louisville and Arkansas in bad shape. What Tennessee needs right now is a long-term solution in the head coach position. Petrino has never been that at any of his destinations.

he didnt leave Arky, they fired him.
the team and everything about their football program was better after he was forced out. I dare say had he not gotten caught, he would have been at Arkansas for many years.

If nothing else he took them to a level that Forbes magazine called the 8th most valueable football program in the nation.

To me, it's not about the infidelity, wreck, lying to school officials, or even the lack of respect for the organization he's supposed to represent, it's that he's likely to bolt without a moment's notice. We all know this.

He sneaks into your house once, that's all it takes. The next thing you know, there's money missing off the dresser and your daughter's knocked up.

Tough call with Petrino. Everyone deserves forgiveness, but he has shown poor ethics on many occasions. He has a burning desire to coach again, and we have a burning desire to win again. Sometimes you don't know what you have unless you lose it. I say hire him if he is the best choice you have to win.

If you truely believe that then you dont think much of the TN job. Why would he leave? he stated many times that he is done with the NFL and hes from Montana, played for Carroll College. He hoping to one day land the job at his alma mater?

He also said, not leaving Louisville, not leaving Atlanta, not hiring cute blondes so i can snog on my Harley.

In other words- he's a degenerate liar with a reputation lower than crocodile piss.

He's got a track record for running out the door with the house burning down. With our recent history, we don't need to roll the dice on someone like that. So yeah, I think very highly of the UT job, I wish our AD Department would show that they do as well.

When Gruden officially blows us off, Patterson ends up staying at TCU or going to Arky, Peterson tells us no just like everyone else, and Kirby Smart comes in here and under performs in the same way DD has, and Bobby Petrino has his team ranked in the top 5 just like he did at Ark and Louisville you'll wish you had been a bit less arrogant and a bit more forgiving.

No, I won't. Yes, I want to win. No, I don't want to win badly enough to have him as a representative of my team and my alma mater.

Using your logic, Jerry Sandusky was a great defensive coordinator, so we should look at him to replace Sunseri.

Comparing Petrino to Sandusky is just plain DUMB , and you know it.

He got caught with a girlfriend and tried to cover it up, just like you would.

No, it's not dumb. I'm not saying Petrino is a criminal or anything like Sandusky. What I'm saying is that there are some people you cannot trust, who are unacceptable as representatives of a program.

Furthermore, I have been on the record (I think in this thread) that I honestly could care less about the affair - - that's his personal business. He's neither the first nor the last to stray. It is his penchant for lying and disloyalty that makes him unacceptable.

Finally, do I want Gruden? Sure. Is he a longshot? Probably. Are there numerous other quality coaches out there if Gruden says "no thanks" who have demonstrated the ability to represent their programs with class (or at a minimum ones who have not embarrassed / betrayed their programs)? You bet.

In short, the "rate of return" on on an investment in Petrino is not the issue. He is the issue. Besides, while he has had some success, he's never brought home a major championship of any kind.

UT could hire Petrino and protect itself at the same time. If he screwed up or tried to leave before his contract was up we could get paid big time. IF it came down to that and we had to search for another coach, at least we would be doing it with money in the bank instead of hoping a booster would cover it and sign off.

Winning NOW should be a big part of this search or why search at all? Petrino has won big in the SEC with less talent than we have on the roster right now. UT could use the presser he did in August with ESPN to show the man is remorseful and is trying to repair his marriage. His presser when hired would be a great chance to allow him to speak to his mistakes and I think recruits/parents would see a man trying to start over. People make mistakes. Petrino has never had NCAA issues and I think he is a great option and an option that brings alot of value to the hire.
