The NO Bobby Petrino Petition

Nick Saban is famous for being almost impossible to work for. It just goes with the territory when it comes to elite coaches like Petrino, Saban, Meyer and probably many others who spend 25 hours a day obcessing over football and trying to figure out how to out slick their opponent. They dont have much of a life, they know nothing but football, they give it 200%, they refuse to lose and they refuse to accept anyone who doesnt give it the same.

It is my understanding that Meyer is a nice guy, very family-oriented. Fulmer also was well-liked by his other coaches and players, and he had a pretty good run in the 90s. Point is, there are different styles of coaching that can work. I don't think being a douche-nozzle is a prerequisite.

Good deal. I am glad you clarified that for me.

Honestly, and from what you are telling me, I think you yourself might by able to get some consideration with that being the case and all.

I have Dave Hart's email if your interested.

Jason, obviously you are still a little wet behind the ears. And now thats ok, see. One day even you will start to truely learn the game of football, and when you do, you will learn that coaches of elite calibur, coaches that live and breathe, eat and S%*t football have huge egos. They are type A personalities and usually are complete asses to work for.

Nick Saban is famous for being almost impossible to work for. In a nutshell, I could care less if those who get paid hundreds of thousands of dollars per year think that their boss is an ahole so long as their boss is making sure that when I leave the stadium on a fall Saturday there is a smile on my face.

Definitely no disrespect man and but I have probably forgotten more about football than you know. The guy Finebaum had on last week said Petrino makes Saban look like a saint. Having a huge ego is one thing, and yes I know most or all of them do. But you have a Coach like Petrino who very disliked, not many parents are going to trust their kids with him. And no its not just the cheating part, i imagine most Coach's have girlfriends and who know's what else. But you have a guy that just up and left his NFL team without telling his players or anything. He was secretly scheming behind Tuberville's back while Tubbs was still at Auburn to take over as HC. He up and left Louisville and lied to his players there. When things get tough he bounces. He absolutely cant be trusted with a university like UT. I am all for getting a successful guy here to win and get us back to where we used to be. Plus if you watched his teams they dont play defense and his best teams got beatdown's from Ala like our worst teams and his offense wasnt exactly prolific again the better defenses and was never going to win the west with the defense's he has and with Saban there. Guess we will have to agree to disagree on him.

Yeah Jason your right buddy. You probably have forgotten more about football than I will ever know. Did you play D1 football?

Anyway, your wrong, his offenses are amazing. Nothing short of amazing. His offense came very close to beating saban in his third year and he did beat Miles.

Along those lines if you are going to make it a pre req of the next head coach to have beaten Saban lately than good luck.

A university like UT?

No offense brother, I am a huge UT fan, but take your orange googles off and realize that nationally UT is nothing special anymore. A few years back we were without question a top 5 program. Lately I have listened to many intelligent arguments suggesting that the TN job is a top 20 job at best.

Elite coaches are not keeping their fingers crossed that DH rings their phone.

The way I see it a UT fan has three options / paths from which to choose...

1) A Coach who absolutely will win and turn this thing around quickly, but is percieved nationally to be morally bankrupt. After the intial shock settles and halfway thru the season it will all but be forgotten.

2) Hire and up and commer who is of good moral character and seems to have potential, but could cost the university even more millions and set us back even further if he fails. The upside to this is that even if that were to happen, you get to atleast share in the integrity trophy to which Arkansas now so proudly holds alone.

3) You keep CDD and see what happens next year.

Personally I say...

If you can hire Gruden, hire him
If you will hire Petrino, do it...
If neither of those are going to happen keep Dooley..

Strong and Patterson are more realistic than BP and are probably better hires (Petersen would be awesome, but I don't see him going anywhere).

No chance he could win it in 2 yrs. Offense isnt our problem and Petrino's Defenses are about as bad as what we have now. He will never be able to recruit at a high level again. Would you or your wife let your son go play for him and be a father figure? Absolutely not!

THIS, plus did you think Kiffin leaving felt bad? IF Petrino were given another chance AND IF he did keep his nose clean and his pants zipped and won again, he'd leave us in the night as soon as the next, bigger, golden carrot got dangled in front of his dorky, fat a$$.

He is done in the NFL.
If he were to rebuild this program to where it was when Phil was coach why in the world would he ever leave?

UT could match anyones offer, especially witht the increase in Revenue.

When you say that you sound as if you dont feel UT is a destination job.

Takes about 30 seconds to add a clause to a contract that says IF you leave before your contract is up(5 years), you will pay UT (said amount buyout). If he wants to coach, he would consider it. If he wants to leave in the middle of the night, pay the 8-10 million buyout and see ya! Why is that so hard to understand? He knows he screwed up. He knows teams will protect themselves.

Wow, just wow. This guy QUIT a team by giving them a LETTER!!!!! He was not man enought to face them, but yet you want him to lead our team? What the hell is the matter with you people? It's bad but it ain't hire a coward bad! People, we need to get a grip and realize that there are more important thing than hiring a no nutz mercenary. Intergrity men, we need it more than damn wins and losses. If we go down this path, we got bigger problems than what we have now.

Your condescension would be annoying if it weren't so funny.

You know, I kinda hate to say it, but you're a complete azzhole.

Are you Petrino's agent?

He was on earlier here in Birmingham and was asked about the chances that he is Auburn's next coach. He said absolutely no chance he ever Coach's at AU. He was talking Petrino and the whole cheating on his wife. Was saying that was the least of his wrongdoings. Said he broke so many rules and compliance issues that he was lucky getting fired was the only thing that happened to him. Basically saying not many big time schools could afford to take a chance on him not only for his history and issues he has had at every place he has coached. He said the stuff he did at Arkansas could have gotten him so much worst things than just fired and dodged a huge bullet. I have been against him from the beginning but with TB saying that, saying alot of the fans and general public just dont realize the extent of
wrongdoing's he has done I even moreso dont want him near our University. And if fans truely still want this guy as Coach not knowing what he will do next then I'm just glad those people arent doing the hiring. Any school would be asking for trouble with his history and overall body of work. This has absolutely nothing to do with him cheating on his wife, we all make mistakes in our personal lives and who know's how many Coach's have girlfriends on the side. But his overall history of wrongdoings at every place he has been just cant be trusted to not put us in an even worse position than we are in now. JMO and I dont agree with Barnhart all the time but definitely do on this and who know's what he has done we dont know about. There is way too many better and safer options out there.

Im just gonna say read my post in this thread i just put about what Tony Barnhart just said about Petrino. If you can still say you want Petrino with the dozens of issues that follow him from job to job and even worse recently at Ark then I cant discuss it with you. Anyone that has played as you say and with or without Orange colored glasses can honestly say this is a man you want running the most important money maker of the university and then I truely feel sorry for you or anyone else that could possibly want that POS. And no beating Saban doesnt have to be a prerequisite, if thats the case then Tubby or Miles would be my first choices.

It wasnt so much compliance it was things that he did involving the girl he hired and was eventually caught with. He didnt go into full details just that he was extremely lucky and wasnt sued or anything else.

Thanks for clarifying. He broke serious rules regarding the structure within Arkansas but not with the NCAA.

Exactly. I really thought maybe UK would be the only SEC team that would. Have heard maybe Cal if Tedford gets fired or Washington if Sark is ever let go. Just somewhere out West would be a good option, isnt he from the left coast somewhere?

Exactly. I wished he would have been more specific but his opinion was with SEC coach's in particular knowing and you have to be so careful these days with anything sex or sexual harassment involved and didnt think SEC teams would risk it. But being on a Bham sportstalk it was more about Auburn and no chance they would offer him.

Better? Your out of your mind, this guy is the best coach in football.

Safer? No doubt
