The Numbers Thread

I too don't purport to be a technician, but Ainge has stated Swaffords responsibility was the gunner who would've lit up the punt returner had it not been blocked.

Since it looked like they sent the house on punt block I would think the return guy was probably going to fair catch anything that made it to him.

Edit. Also Swafford is lined up as 3rd guy in. So not sure how he would be responsible for the end guy unless he lined up incorrectly.

"Unfortunate" was referring to the fact that his scholarship would count towards this year's class...but since you brought it up, I'm gonna reserve judgement on his playmaking abilities. His big plays were a result of him being out of position. He was in the wrong place at the right time.

Not true.

I agree with Leb/Vol's signing number. Does the Hall injury affect the number to sign? I thought I saw something on VN that he could be signed without it counting in the "24". With Hall being injured, don't you think that we need to sign 2 OL making 6 total?

I think the only way it not count is if he'd grey shirt (not show up on campus til Jan 2016). I doubt that'll happen. He needs to be on campus getting top notch rehab. No reason to believe his commitment won't be handled in the same manner as Treyvon Paulk's

I agree. f the kid is smart, he does not want any part of accepting a GS. All that does is set him up to wait a year and then UT not honor the scholarship anyway. I'd bet a lot of quality schools would take Hall right now, injury or not. I hope UT honors his commitment and scholarship for 2015. Unless it's confirmed to be career ending, he should sign as a Vol for 2015. I also agree him being on campus and benefiting from the UT rehab facilities is what is best for Chance long term.

I don't want to throw in another question; but with Jumper showing real potential at ILB, he certainly looks like a candidate for a scholy. Where would he fit in? 2016 class?

Could happen. With walk-ons it's hard to say if they will end up on scholarship or not. If the staff does put him on scholarship within his 1st couple years on campus, it would have to count toward one of the classes. If they wait till year 3, I think it only counts toward the 85 and not a specific class.

Shy Tuttle is top on the big board (mine) for uncommitted recruits. Someone throw some names out of who you would like to see round out our recruiting class.

A corner, an OT, Quarte Sapp at LB, Shy Tuttle obviously. Maybe flip Jefferson and Richmond, especially if we can make the room.

You don't want much do you? Who would you choose at CB?

It's not that I don't, I'm just questioning who we will actually get. Up until a few weeks ago, I was confident Jefferson, Richmond, and Phillips would be Vols. We could possibly flips, but who knows. As for corner, I'd like Martin, and either Abernathy or Amadi if possible.

I think the staff has known how things would play out. Why are they at 22-23 commits right now? IMO it's because they felt Jefferson, and Phillips would not be Vols. I tell myself them taking Boulware was at least in part because they knew Richmond was gone.

I could be wrong but I think Abernathy, Sapp, and Martin are being slow played as the staff is not ready to take them today. Tuttle has a spot obviously so he would make either 23 or 24 IF Woods is still considered a commitment as far as the UT staff is concerned.

No more offers going out. CB predictions coming in for other schools for almost all the guys left on UTs board. Cole did just get a CB to Tennessee. Maybe the staff prefers him to anyone left on their board. We'll see.

Leb, I think CB is the position of need and we are in on about 3 good ones. I guess we will find out Saturday if the OL is a more pressing need. Who would you think we have the best shot at on the OL?

I had though maybe Givens IF the staff wanted him but with him announcing he will decide right after Richmond chose Ole Miss looks like he won't be waiting around for UT to make a push.

William Sweet would be my choice IF the staff could choose one to flip. Just not sure if that is realistic or not now.

Juco wise I like Tyler Howell. 6'7 275 and holds 3 SEC offers so far. Arkansas looks to have the inside track there, but IMO he would listen.

I'm still curious about Boulware. I see everyone saying he is an OG, but if he is actually 6'4 295 today, it's not out of the question the UT staff may have taken him as an OT when they found out they were missing on Richmond. It makes the most sense to me at this point.

I got locked in that Richmond would be a vol and I forgot about Givens.

It will be interesting to see how the coaches view future position needs as the season progresses and how it impacts recruiting for this class.

IMO, the number of additional commits accepted is more a matter of what they have to do to address weaknesses on the teams vs. the number of spots left in the class.

I'm sure the staff would like to keep all existing commits. However, I won't be surprised if CBJ encourages some to look around in order to take recruits that meet more pressing needs.

I had to post something. The "numbers" thread had 666 posts & I thought that was way to much bad karma so here you go...back to just numbers.

I'm not certain we can take all those guys and only sign 35-50 this class.

If those guys want in then Jones will "trim the fat" of this class. It's all about building a tradition back from the ashes. I feel like the most passionate fans in the country don't even come close to Tennessee.

I disagree. CBJ is filling the class and is doing so based on what he feels are the team needs. CBJ has a much better feel for what recruits he can actually land vs fans looking at stars and convinced UT is "in it". Why did CBJ take Ford at DE with Sweat still on the board? Simple really, CBJ knew Sweat was not actually considering UT. Frasier, Love, Newsome, and all these guys the fans think UT is right there to get them, IMO CBJ is saying we are not as he has filled the class w/out waiting for those guys to decide. JMO

I thought about you Saturday night LV, when the announcer said we could only take 25-26 this year. I'm glad you're alright. I was afraid you might have had a stroke. :)

He was probably confused. The announcer was talking about how many times Striker had hit Worley. 25-26 times. :p
