The Numbers Thread

I'll drop this article here.

@JonSolomonCBS: 5 schools with no multiyear scholarships in our survey: Arizona, UConn, Oklahoma, Tennessee, UCF

Schools can give out 4-year athletic scholarships, but many don't - CBSSports.com

Do you think this is used against us in recruiting? Is it enough to sway anyone? If so, who?

I would think it is very much used as a negative recruiting tool. How could it not be? "This school is only promising you 1 year, we will promise you all 4 years". Obviously some kids/parents would see it as a major factor in where they sign. Also when you consider UT deciding to/needing to flip the roster as fast as they have, other schools who don't "trim the fat" near as much can point to that as well. "Look at all the kids TN has processed for various reasons the last couple years". Once again the 4 year guaranteed scholarship would seem like a much better option for a lot of kids/parents.

According to Saban (who offers multiyear scholarships):

“It really is not an issue either way, though,” Saban said. “A player's on a one-year scholarship and it's automatically renewable. It's not like you can just take it away. And if he's on a four-year scholarship and does something in violation of university policy or athletic policy, you can still take it away. It really is insignificant.”

1 week till Tuttle announces for the Vols. Will push the class to 23 actual commits. Last spot, who is going to get it?

That is with Woods decommit? I'd imagine we get an OL and still think we get a CB.

80 players currently on scholarship.

11 SRs who will be leaving and spots opened up which brings the # to 69.

Rumors that RDAIV will be transferring to UT adds 1 making it possibly 70.

26 current commitments.

96 kids possibly on scholarship with a max of 85 allowed.

The scholarship roster I have been using shows "walk-on" next to Jacob Carters name. Looks to be something that has been added. Possibly after the scholarships went out to Swafford and Gilliam. While he had been put on scholarship for a period of time, it had me thinking maybe he was removed at some point.

Admittedly I don't follow too closely on this stuff. Do we have some on track to graduate in the spring and can they be moved to academic scholarships then? Are some already on other forms of aid, such as kickers or others? Also if a degreed transfer comes in couldn't they go on academic scholarship as well?

I always thought even if a kid transfers in as a SR who has already graduated, he would still take up a scholarship, he could just play right away w/out sitting out a year for the transfer. I'm pretty sure if the kid is on some sort of scholarship, it would have to be a football scholarship.

Is there a way they can get Justin Martin on scholarship in the fall without him counting towards this year's class limit?

I don't think so. They would have to save a spot to take him later in the fall. He would have to count toward the class I believe.

I'm not exactly sure how the blue shirt thing works, but maybe there would be a way to BS him then he would count toward 2016.

With so much happening with RB recruiting, the numbers are becoming more and more interesting and challenging. With the injuries to Lane, Hurd, and Young and the loss of Paulk, building the RB numbers has become a higher priority. Looking like we are trying to get either Frasier, Love, or Bussey. That would give us three in this class in addition to the three currently on the roster. All across the SEC, teams have needed 3-5 RBs over the course of the season. It's interesting how much injuries can change the recruiting dynamic.

He may have been, IDK. Was he one of those "spring scholarship" guys who gets put back on walk on status when the incoming class shows up in the fall? It gets confusing sometimes.
