The Numbers Thread

Yes they do!!! If you sign 30 in a class it stands to reason that roughly a third will never make it to their Senior season.

Of course it stands to reason. I'd rather not see classes 30 deep to start with. Take 20-25, develop them, coach up the kids on campus and build a winner. Ya know, it's not unheard of.

That's the root of the problem so far this coaching staff doesn't share that Philosophy. We will see how they are as we move forward but I'm guessing they will always sign at least the minimum. I don't ever see them signing 21 or 22 like Dooley used to unles the new rule changes for them too which could very well happen.

It appears to me that we are in on a lot of excellent, high quality kids much earlier than in previous years. The offer list is sooooo good. I would say that the entire 20-22 2016 class could be 4* or better. Times have really changed. And the turnout for Junior Days is great.

Bruce, Perry, and Young would obviously be 3 who are not.

Phillips would be another that is unlikely if he sticks. Looking over the last 3 classes, no 5'7-5'8 CBs have been rated a 4*. That is of course if he is indeed 5'7 as 247 says.

I'd guess there will be at least 6-7 3* type guys in the class come NSD.

Deisch, Tennyson.

A couple names VQ is tossing out who may be possible commits during the next couple JR day weekends.

Deisch at OT would be a great get and fills a need for that 2nd OT for the class. Very athletic kid who could grow into a very good LT in time.

Now Tennyson I'm not so sure how he fits in. Yes, WR is a need in 2016. Just how many slot type guys do you take in a smaller class? Bruce, Perry, Tennyson, Hardman(4)? If they want a couple bigger outside WRs as well, fitting (6) in the class will be interesting.

So, I was just going through the updated roster, looking at how many scholarship players we have per class. Here's what I come up with:

Freshmen - 29 [9 EE + 15 in Fall = 24 true + 5 RS]

Sophomores - 21 [15 true + 6 RS]

Juniors - 17 [9 true + 7 RS + 1 in Fall]

Seniors - 14 [5 true + 9 RS/5th yr]

Total - 81

I only counted players I believe to be on scholarship, so I could be off by 1 or 2. (I also didn't count the two incoming Blueshirts.)

Several things stood out to me:

1) We only have 81 scholarship players, so not as close to the limit as I expected (unless my numbers are significantly off).

2)We're STILL a very young team for 2015, with 50 scholarship underclassmen vs 31 scholarship upperclassmen. Each class from Freshman to Senior gets smaller (29-21-17-14).

3)Looking through the names of players in each class, the talent pool also appears to be distributed similarly, which is likely a function of both our improved recent recruiting and collective attrition per class (i.e. lots of attrition for the Senior class vs none in the Freshmen class).

4)There are only TWO true scholarship Seniors on the team who aren't JuCos! So a total of TWO players who have been a combination of talented enough, healthy enough, and productive enough to stay on the team for four years (without a RS). That's unbelievable to me!

Let me know if I'm missing anything here; surely others have looked through the upcoming roster in a similar manner.

Go Vols!!! :peace2:

On second thought, I'm not entirely sure my previous post belongs here, so I created a new thread for it.

Go Vols!

Can we save one more spot for Holyfield? He'd be a knockout RB that packs a punch.:thud:

Phenomenal class, would it be okay to take 1-2 more OL and and 2 LBs? With recent history of taking 0 recruits at a position and the subsequent detrimental effects to the entire team for years...please do not skip any position. :salute:
