The Numbers Thread

Phenomenal class, would it be okay to take 1-2 more OL and and 2 LBs? With recent history of taking 0 recruits at a position and the subsequent detrimental effects to the entire team for years...please do not skip any position. :salute:

Definitely need some LBs.

Dang....could you imagine..

QB: Guarantano
RB: Walker
RB: Emmons
WR: Hardman
WR: Henderson
WR: George (JUCO)
TE: Brooks
OL: Dickerson
OL: Johnson
DE: Gooden
DT: Brown
DT: Gary
DE: Crump (JUCO)
DB: Warrior
DB: Joejuan Williams
DB: Osbourne
DB: Phillips
DB: Banks

I mean, that's 18. I'd be alright with that. Wrap em up, and call it a day?

Forgot Bituli

How does this sound:
QB: Guarantano
RB: Walker, Speights
WR: Henderson, George(JUCO), Pinder
TE: Brooks
OL: Johnson, Mathews, Dickerson
DE: Kareem, Okonya
DT: Gary, (some dude out of the blue)
LB: Bituli, Hart
CB: Phillips, Osborne, Vaughn
S: JoeJuan Williams, Warrior

That's 21. Leaves a spot or two for another DE, LB, or ATH.

Bumping everyone's FAVORITE thread.
According to Fortenberry-

Yes, according to several sources Oliver was a blue shirt so he never signed papers. They get that one back and are now up to 21. Definitely didn't see this coming at the beginning of the summer.

So the magic number for the 2016 class is now at 21. It was at 18 because we had 7 blueshirts counting towards the class, but with Swafford, Bruce, and now Oliver leaving, that number is back up a few.

We still got 6 months till NSD, might weed out out 4 or 5 more before its over might sign 28.:)

Perry isn't going anywhere. That's one that I think is going to be a big time player for us. Idk that we have any blue shirt players left other than him. Anyone else cut still counts as an initial counter I believe.

So we're at 14 commitments right now. If we can take 21 then that means we got space for 7 more. Considering we're still in on so many elite guys (Kyle Davis, Nigel Warrior, Landon Dickerson, and Tavien Feaster), we might finish top 5-7 once again.

So question for some of the number gurus on here (where you at Leb)-

If we release a scholarship freshman before the year begins, are we able to backcount him in the upcoming recruiting class? I'm pretty sure we were able to backcount 1 from the 15' class because Henderson never qualified, but I'm not positive.

No. That's part of the reason why the 25 rule exists. Schools were taking 30+ players and if they didn't make it in or the school later didn't have room for them, no big deal.

So the SEC created this rule to prevent that from happening.

Alright, a little Numbers Game for you all-

We currently have 17 known commitments for the 2016 class. Adding them in to what we have returning from the current roster, we have (according to my potentially-flawed roster) 85 scholarship players on the roster for next season.

Assuming we sign 20~21 players in this class (due to previous blueshirts), then expect 4 or 5 (non-seniors) from the current roster to leave. Any more than that, and I'm not sure how we fill out that 85 number other than assigning scholarships to Walk-Ons (as long as they've been on campus for more than 2 years, they don't count against a recruiting class if they get a scholarship).

Not taking any attrition (or early NFL Draft entrees) into account currently, the 2016 Vols roster would have-

QB- 4 (Dobbs, Dormady, S.Jones, Guarantano)
RB- 5 (Hurd, Kamara, J.Kelly, Young, Fils-Aime)
OL- 14 (Blair, Weisman, Kendrick, Sanders, Thomas, Robertson, Raulerson, Mosley, J.Jones, Hall, Boulware, Richmond, Stewart, & R.Johnson)
WR- 12 (Blanc, Croom, North, J.Smith, George, Malone, Williams, Jennings, Perry, B.Johnson, C.Henderson, TD.Marshall)
TE- 6 (Stockstill, Et.Wolf, Jk.Johnson, Creamer, Pope, D.Brooks)

DE- 8 (L.Lewis, Vereen, Barnett, Mixon, Phillips, D.Taylor, Butcher, Okonya)
DT- 7 (O'Brien, Vickers, A.Johnson, McKenzie, Tuttle, Picou, Christmas-Giles)
OLB- 8 (Reeves-Maybin, McDowell, El.Berry, Bates, A.Smith, Sapp, Bituli, Blakely)
ILB- 4 (Bynum, Bryant, Kirkland, Hart)
CB- 9 (Sutton, Foreman, Moseley, Martin, D.Henderson, Gaulden, M.Abernathy, D.Miller, Osborne)
S- 3 (T.Kelly Jr., Ev.Berry, Griffin)

Hope this all makes sense. This is a talented roster, and a deep one. Obvious needs at OT and Safety, but Butch & Co. look to be stocking up talent for years to come. GBO.

We are after so many guys still and trying to hold into what we already have, I wouldn't be surprised if we signed 25.

Also Sutton is definitely gone.

Fort said on VQ that expect some defections from the current class and some transfers. Didn't refer to anyone in particular but insinuated the class would shape up differently than it appears now.
