The Oakland A's- MLB's ACTUAL AAA team

and I don't believe this quote for 1 second.
I get what he is trying to say but there is no way an injury increased a players value.

i took it to mean that he's available and you don't have to give up a draft pick to get him, thus making him more valuable. Obviously his pre-existing injuries still hurt his value. nothing more, nothing less.

I figured that is what he was getting at but the "indirectly increased his free-agency value" struck me the wrong way. Not a very good way to word that statement.

I think it potentially increases his availability but definitely not his value.

think about it. We would now have the oft injured Chavez at 3B, Crosby/Furcal at SS, Mark Ellis (coming off an injury) at 2B and Giambi or Nick Johnson at 1B. We would be sitting with 75% of our payroll on the DL in July. That would just be excellent.

Sounds like a plan. They should make a run for Mark Prior too.

it would free up some expenses though. By the time the draft rolls around and the entire MLB lineup is out for the season, we can just bump everyone up a level and do away with a rookie team. Just start everyone out in Single A.

Beane would start another new trend. I'm sure the Royals would try it. Nothing else works for them.

some love for the best baseball player of my lifetime:

looks like I'll be in the middle of the action for the Furcal signing. His agent is out of the US all week, so nothing will likely happen until the Winter Meetings in Vegas next week. Doubt I'll actually have any inside scoop while I'm there, but I'll try and keep anyone interested updated.

Interesting to note, the Braves might get into the Furcal mix.

ESPN - Agent Paul Kinzer: Rafael Furcal won't sign before winter meetings

Gettin off the roids wagon is tough. Look at Tony Mandarich.

yeah, let's not bring it up.

i'm just hoping the 'roids had little to do with it and that Giambi is actually a Nazarene and once his hair grows back, he'll be beastly again. A guy can hope right? It's spring training!

Maybe it'll get better, but there was a lot of stuff that his bat just couldn't catch up to any more in NY.

The Oakland A's will not wind up in Fremont. They may never get out of their dump of a stadium unless they move out of the Bay.

welcome Orlando Cabrera. The A's are also in talks with Nomar Garciaparra. If we sign Nomar, I'm not sure what that does to Mark Ellis at 2b. The end of the Bobby Crosby era in Oakland is finally upon us. Supposedly Eric Chavez is healthy and feels better than ever, so I can't imagine Nomar is moving to third. Ellis isn't great offensively, probably not even "good" anymore, but I hate to see him lose a starting spot. He's often injured as well, but eh well. The improvements on offense are great, especially Holliday. The bullpen will be extremely solid and we just have to hope enough of these young guns can become capable starters. Just enough for me to be excited I guess.

so the A's continue to strengthen their position on having a completely injured infield by June. The Nomar deal is all but finalized.

The improvements on offense are great.

Much needed. They were dreadful offensively last year.

I think the A's are shaping up as a team that could contend for the division title. The Angels are definitely the team to beat, but Oakland could make it a competitive race in the West.

I'm cautiously optimistic. The Angels did nothing but get older and the M's signed Griffey. They could win the division by default. Probably won't even have to win 90 games.

I understand what you're sayin with the cautious optimism, but as a baseball fan, and an objective one at that (could care less who wins the ALw), I think the A's have a great shot at contending. I'm interested to see Chavez. I use to be a big fan, but I feel like he hasn't played this decade.

Contending for the West maybe. No shot at an AL crown.

6 run rally in the eighth and ninth innings and the A's win their second straight over the Halos thanks to clutch hitting by NOMAH and Marky Ellis. Brett Anderson squares off against Jered Weaver in the final game of the series tonight.

Jack Cust batting .500 on the young season. Also interesting to note, that the A's yet to hit a HR.

A's win just their fourth series of the season, taking both games of the short series against the Royals. More importantly they actually hit the crap out of the ball. Time will tell if it will last or if more players will just wind up injured. As a pessimistic fan, I'll predict the latter.
