The Oakland A's- MLB's ACTUAL AAA team

Bill has good has Ryan Sweeney been this year and good do you see him being? I drafted him with the last pick in the MILB draft so i'm thinking i might be getting good value. The one thing though that does stick out is his SOs.

17 SOs in 82 ABs isn't good, but I wouldn't call it horrible either. His OBP is .326, so I can definitely live with that for now because you have to think the kid is only going to get better.

He has quite a knack for grounding out to the second baseman, but on his hits he seems to be able to hit the ball all over the park. Don't ever confuse him for a power guy though.

The best thing for him is that there is plenty of competition in the OF so he has to stay competitive. 6 guys, 3 spots (joining Buck, Brown, Cust, Denorfia and Davis). Looks like Deno will get sent down, although they placed him on the DL for now.

The worst thing for him is that there is plenty of competition in the OF. One bad week could cost him dearly.

He really fooled alot of people with his AAA numbers. One other thing i notice is that he has some good RBI numbers..

i really don't know that much of his AAA numbers while in the Sox organization.

Rich Harden makes his return from the DL today against the Rangers. Anyone want to take a guess how long he will last between DL stints? I'm thinking optimistically and I'm going to say 7 starts.

And finally in news that is very surprising to me, Buck got optioned to the minors instead of being called back up. I never saw that coming. He was wasn't batting well before his DL trip, but with his ups and downs, I didn't think it was that big of a deal. Obviously Brown isn't going anywhere, neither is Cust and Geren says he's happy with the production of Sweeney and Davis. Like I said before, outfielders are not a problem for the A's right now.

Maybe I'm just reading too much into this, but I find it ironic that just about every Boston win makes it to the front page of ESPN.com, whether it be the lead story or usually one of the news links on the right hand side. Oakland takes game 1 of the 3 game series and it doesn't even show up on the MLB front page of espn.com. Ridiculous.

Harden looked sharp again, hopefully he's healthy and can stay that way. I first thought he'd just be trade bait (and he still might be), but if the A's can continue to stay above .500 and be a legit threat to the Halos (especially since there seems to be ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to fear about the Mariners), he might stick around and try to win us a pennant.

Tonight Beckett goes against Duchscherer followed by Lester vs Blanton in Game 3 Sunday.

Duchscherer flirts with the no no, giving up one hit in eight innings as the A's take the series and can (gasp) hopefully sweep the Sox tomorrow. FWIW, it is on espn's front page this time. Angels win again, so the A's are still 2 1/2 back.

BUST OUT THE BROOMS!!!!!! A's sweep the BoSox. Great series to hopefully bust out of a slump. Now let's all get settled in and cheer the ChiSox to beat the Halos on Sunday Night Baseball... Happy Memorial Day everybody!

Weeks is 1-1 with a rocket up the middle for a single. The game is on ESPN if you are interested Bill.

Edit: He just stole second too.

didn't get to see that game, but watched him some last night. Looks pretty solid, although offensively he basically just walked all night long. I'll take that though.

Mark Ellis proved he's not ready to give up that position with a HUGE walk off granny in the 12th to help the A's avoid a sweep from the Halos.

Sitting here watching the A's beat the Phillies in the bottom of the 8th right now, and I wish I were happier. But the Braves suck enough that I really don't think it matters to me. Nice to see that the A's are hanging in there for Bill, at least.

Bill thought you would be interested in this.

ESPN - Source: Rangers, Reds jump into bidding war for Dominican Inoa, 16 - MLB

The A's are the favorite to sign top Dominican prospect Michel Inoa (according to Baseball America, not ESPN). The Reds and Rangers are also involved.

crazy to think that a 16 year old can be so "valuable". But in watching some local Appalachian League ball, the Kingsport Mets started a 16 year old shortstop in all 3 games against the Johnson City Cardinals over the weekend. He looked good defensively, but horrible offensively. I'm not lying or exaggerating when I say I think he had 6 F7s in the scorebook.

Unfortunately though it looks like I'm going to have to hope the Rays implode so the A's can take the wild card. The angels (as i predicted I might add) seem to be the crown jewel of the AL West.

Chavvy is back on the DL....

but the bigger question is whether or not Michael Inoa really is worth that much money... Guess we'll find out in about 3 years.

From MLB trade rumors

Cubs Acquire Rich Harden
By Tim Dierkes [July 8 at 5:25pm CST]
Dave Kaplan of WGN Radio in Chicago reports that the Cubs have acquired Rich Harden from the A's. Sean Gallagher is reportedly part of the deal, and possibly Matt Murton. More when I have it.

The trade looks like

A's send:
Rich Harden
Chad Gaudin

Cubs send:
Sean Gallagher
Matt Murton
Eric Patterson
Josh Donaldson

It's not final but this is what i got.

not completely bad. Harden is nothing but bad news. Horrible move by both teams. No team should actually trade for Harden, who is guaranteed a lengthy DL stint in the second half of the season. However, most teams are dumb and trade for pitching no matter what and Beane could have gotten more. Getting rid of Harden is a good thing, especially if Donaldson winds up contributing.
