The Obligatory Post-loss Bruce Pearl thread (merged)

I would actually make a case that this team isn't as bad as you say, at least 100 times. If you take Tobias out of the picture, there isn't a huge discrepancy in talent between Melvin-Golden, Maymon-Williams, and from what I see of McRae in the last 4 games he can disappear from a game just as well as Hopson. Offensively this team seems to be able to shoot about as well, defensively they are pitiful, which is supposed to be Martin's calling card.

Melvin>Golden - Golden D is a liability on the court. Almost as bad as McSuckAss

Hopson> McRae - McRae may very well have a better career but he disappears more than Hopson did.

Tatum=Tatum Weird huh?

Maymon> Pearl - but couldn't beat him out last year

Williams > Hall - Hall is a good backup player.

It is, and I understand it. Saying that this loss is somehow worse than Pearl's team getting waxed by Charleston or putting up a whopping 48 on Charlotte isn't.

You mean the Charleston team that is 7-1 this year and went 22-12 last year with only a 7 point loss to the eventual final four team VCU. I'll take that over 2-9 Austin Peay team.

Except for that part where Goins could actually defend

I think losing to AP is worse. But if not worse, it is certainly comparable. Last year's team made the NCAA. I'll cut Martin some slack on this loss if he does the same.

Oh look. The transitive property of college sports. My favorite.

All good points, my response is this team wasn't 100 times worse than last year, especially on offense. I can't explain Pearl-Maymon thing, Maymon is obviously a much better player. Hall has more talent than Williams, not sure why he doesn't perform.

He coached them up. Went to the game plan that highlighted their strengths.

He did NOT coach Lofton shooting 25 foot bombs over the outstretched hands of defenders or Jujuan and his God-given ability to play lockdown defense.

But, let's just say he did. What happened to so many of the other players he coached?

You are mistaking talent for quality

Ok it is comparable.

But last year's team was more talented, hence the NCAA bid.

This year's team was never expected to make the tournament. So you are going to punish them for not being as good?
