The Office: Season 8

So Rainn Wilson tweeted that NBC is passing on "The Farm". So the spinoff is dead. Probably for the best, I thought it sounded horrible.

That sucks to be honest. I would have liked to have seen what the show could have been. It had the possiblity to be funny, but on the other hand had the possiblity to be plain ole awful.

It makes me wonder what NBC has on deck for next year if they're passing on an established character like that. 30 Rock and The Office are definitely done after this season, and Community, Parks and Rec and Up all Night can't be far behind. I'm just curious what they're planning on filling their fall schedule with next year.

Knowing NBC, they probably don't have anything lined up. They have the morons running the company.

My guess is they don't have a clue. They have to be horribly desperate because they're getting murdered on Thursday nights.

Up All Night most definitely is done, after hearing the news that they added 3 more episodes for the spring and they are radically changing the setup. It's going from single camera to multiple camera with a live audience/laugh track. It sounds like it will be awful. Which is sad, even though the ratings were sucking, I was actually enjoying this season so far.

It's a shame too, because they have BY FAR the best Thursday night lineup. I'll say that I do enjoy Big Bang on CBS, but other than that Thursdays are a wasteland as far as comedy is concerned on the other networks.

For the people that have been watching the current season of 30 Rock, the awful shows that Jack has been trotting out trying to tank the network might not be as much of a stretch as they were intended to be. I'll just be interested to see what NBC does on Thursday next year. They've had more or less a monopoly on quality Thursday comedy for 25-30 years and it seems like that tank is finally about to run dry. Not because the shows aren't still good, but because for one reason or another, people aren't watching them.

I agree. I still watch TBBT but I have to admit it seems to be losing it for me. I know ratings wise it's still killing it's not grabbing me like it used to.

I really don't get why CBS is killing on the comedies anyway; the only other CBS comedy I watch is How I Met Your Mother and as I've said earlier, I'm so close to abandoning it because I'm sick of how much they are stretching it out.

Isn't this supposed to be the final season of HIMYM? If not, like you, I don't know how much longer I can stand them dragging it out.

It was renewed for 2 seasons in 2011, so this season is that second season. But I don't think it's been confirmed it's the last season. Either way it's the last season for me.

So this season of The Office continues to be pretty dreaful, and last's night episode was just....stupid.

Someone seriously did a storyline where Pam on purpose gets DM fired by a client so they can fill out a complaint card so they can finish a tower of complaint cards? WTF? Why have they turned Jim into a complete idiot?

So I'm going to bump again because.....it somehow gets worse.

The past 2 episodes have been so over the top stupid, I can't even believe it's the same show. The Lice episode was just awful, and apparently everyone smearing mayonnaise in their hair and Meredith shaving her head is supposed to be hilarious. This past week's I actually didn't mind Daryl's part, but the whole coffee part was just painfully bad. Everyone acting like they were on drugs and ripping up the carpet.....WTF was that?

I'm still going to finish this thing but wow is this show going to be limping to the finish line. And the last report I read said it's pretty much definite Steve Carrell is not making an appearance.

I agree with pretty much everything you are saying. I was hoping that SC would make an appearance in at least the last episode if not the last few. They are really ruining the shows name sake. It used to be such a great show.

I just don't understand how most of you guys are so butthurt about Carrell not being on the show. I feel bad for you if you still can't enjoy it, because it's hardly any different without him.

Not "butthurt" at all. I think SC helped make the show what it was. I can enjoy the show but it really isn't close to the same since he left. Whether it's due to him leaving or the writers changing I guess we will never know for sure.

Gotcha. I just have a hard time relating sometimes because I didn't skip a beat in that transition. I remember some people in this thread just having a really hard time coping with Carrell leaving. It was ruining their lives.

:lolabove: If it ruined someone's life that's pretty funny. I'm not going to lie I was a little sad to see SC go because I felt like he made the show work really well, but I also thought if they got the right person the show could still work. I don't feel they have done that. I thought Andy would work out as taking over but that didn't happen either. I think the writers could have helped themselves by keep the Jim and Dwight pranks going back and forth. That truly was one of my favorite parts of the show. Jim and Dwights back and forth were great.

I'll take a little bit of a different view on the current season. I've actually enjoyed this season more than I have any seasons in the past 4-5 years. It's not the same great show it was in seasons 2 and 3, but I enjoy it much in the same way I enjoy movies like Zoolander or Step Brothers. Are they over the top with absurd stupidity? Sure, but they're still funny. It's not like Carrell leaving is what caused the show to go downhill. It was on it's way down for a while before he left.

I pretty much gave up on this show near the end of last season when the writers kept going back again and again to stories revolving around the Tate woman. When they decided to actually keep her on as a character that was pretty much enough writing on the wall for me.

Haven't watched a single episode in its entirety this season. Only bits and pieces when I catch it channel surfing. Judging by what people are saying it looks like I made the right decision.

Carrell leaving didn't kill the show. Factors such as bad writing and terrible characters did. I actually watched and enjoyed the first 3/4 of season 8 and thought it was still moderately funny.

Then the Florida story arc happened and the show pretty much was in full on nose dive mode from that point forward.

If you still enjoy the show, that's fine. But I disagree about it being the same show that it was when Michael was there, because it's not IMO. The difference in humor now compared to the humor in the earlier seasons is pretty drastic.

I'm going to have to extremely disagree with you on this part. It's very different without him.

I guess this where I differ, because I don't think it's funny. There's stupid funny and just plain stupid, and for me the last 2 seasons have been extremely in the plain stupid camp.

And yes I agree the show has been going downhill, but as I've said before, after he left it was like dropping straight off a cliff instead of general decline.

The only one that still makes me laugh is Creed.
