The Official “Regular Posters of the Basketball Forum” Thread

I’m just saying that someone who probably didn’t even start watching until 2017-2018 shouldn’t be allowed to say “fire Barnes” they haven’t put in their dues yet lol
dallas,

Anyone saying Barnes should be fired is a damn fool. It doesn’t matter if they have watched every game in Tennessee Basketball history

I'm pretty sure anyone complaining about Barnes is doing so to either troll or just because they are a constant complainer. That or for whatever reason they just don't like Barnes. There's a few regulars here that I can tell are just itching to complain about Barnes every chance they get.

I'd say those have dementia rather than being fools. Unless they wanted to fahr John Mauer and Zora Clevenger as well.

I like Barnes, and I sure don't won't him fired. But I can also understand why people are complaining.

I know a couple of North Carolina fans, and they are constantly complaining about Roy

It's just one of those years

Agreed. That’s not what I’m saying at all. I believe you may want to take some courses on reading comprehension bud.

I'm one em Constance Complainers.

There are plenty of reasons to complain. I think Barnes did an awful job of recruiting for a few years and deserves criticism for it.

But if the word fired is used that’s just ignorant

I also see some very good progress being made from individuals we just have taken a Significant step back on D since turner left. SV is one that is making huge strides on O but he’s killing us on D. He’s too slow to keep guys in front and he continually gets beat off the ball ball watching

Any posts saying Barnes should be fired? I haven’t seen any.

It’s a made up narrative that people want Barnes fired.

James out hurt, team is still improving though. Just wish we had better rebounding. I love Pons & Fulky, but they aren't great fundamental rebounders and often get themselves out of position.

They are shot blockers that getprimarily out of Position because we aren’t keeping guys in front of us. VS instead of Turner trying to keep guys out of the lane is the main culprit

No it's not. They are both in year 3 and neither has averaged more than 6 in a season. SV has only played 9 games with them hardly him to blame.

Turner was our best defender on the outside though, was hoping Bowden would step up more there. And by the numbers Fulkerson's averaging more rebounds a game (7.3) since Santiago started playing.

No to what???

They both are shot blockers especially Pons. Unless you want them to abandon an area that makes them most effective they will
Continue to “get out of Position” to protect the rim.

Also Fulkersons minutes are way up
Recently. That’s why his rebounds are up.

as for VS yes he’s only played 9 games which makes it understandable he’s a weak link on our defense. Thanks for making my point

so whatever you are saying no to makes zero sense

I don’t understand all the arguing and fire Barnes stuff. The man has gotten us back to elite expectations and recruiting. We’ve had bad luck and are just not very talented this year. It’s not rocket science. We’ll be fine next year and we are in good hands. And I’m not even a Barnes guy lol. Relax

I actually think that is the area Bowden has done really well in this year. I remember in the Kansas game I was getting infuriated because Dotson would score with ease when Bowden wasn’t on him, then JB would lock him up for a few possessions, and then we’d put somebody else on him and he’d go back to scoring at ease. I get trying to get him some rest but he sat nearly the whole first half with foul trouble, should’ve been rested

Yep. Bowden has been great on D

Lots of posters can only see the shiney stat line with points. JJJ has been a very good freshman but scoring isn't the best aspect of his game... so he's a failure. More of the same will be coming when Keon plays great defense but doesn't average double digit points per game.

Agree. We are now starting to recruit at a high level and it should pay dividends in the future. Even if the expectation was that Grant would leave early, Bone was a surprise. His presence alone would have added a lot of stability to this team. Heck even without him and all the turmoil on the roster this year, I think we should have 2 more wins that we gave away. We blew it against both Memphis and A&M. Still like the trajectory of the program.

Why do you always do this?

Pons & Fulkerson aren't good fundamental rebounders, and that hasn't got anything to do with a guy who has played just 9 games with them. That has to do with how they go about rebounding, a part of it is like you pointed out that they chase the blocks. But mostly it's because neither seems to box out and establish position.

Who do you consider to be a good fundamental rebounder?

To be clear I am not saying they are bruising great rebounders but I think they are doing fine in that area a majority of time. The a&m game was bad but the rest of the year they have been fine especially when you consider how good they have been at rim protecting

Your PF & C averaging 10.8 rebounds a game COMBINED when they both are on the court around 30 minutes a game isn't "doing fine"

Jarnell Stokes, Jeronne Maymon and even Grant Williams were all better fundamental rebounders.

November 36.4 rebounds a game average as a team, December 23.8 and January 29.6 (we also played all of the bottom 5 SEC teams). We need to do better at rebounding, and our "bigs" need to do better, that includes Olivier, Pember, & Plavsic.

Last 4 games we've cut down the Turnovers as well. 10.3 a game, and less than 10 in two of those games yet we went 1-3 in that stretch. Not having James (2nd leading rebounder) at Miss State hurt us a ton. Other guys gotta step up though, we've got 3 players that are all 6'9" or taller and a 4th that's basically that size.
