JJJ is an underrated defender IMOYou left off Nkamhoua.
My guess is that the first of two most hotly debated issues, assuming no roster changes (big assumption, at this point) will be positioning of Springer and Vescovi. Both are likely starters, but who is PG and who is SG is up for debate. The second issue will be who is the starter at the 3, JJJ or Keon Johnson? Both have been injured and JJJ will have the experience edge, so I lean towards him being the starter, initially.
Frankly, having 3 guys on the floor together that could all play the point is very appealing. They all specialize in something unique, as well.
Springer can get to the paint, finish at the rim, and an excellent defender.
Vescovi is an excellent shooter and passer.
JJJ is a great rebounder and developing into a really consistent shooter.
I like this, but we need a big in the worst way.
And I’m guessing ticket redshirts and Jalen leaves?
Actually, Bowden rotates quite often to guard the other team's best scorer. Barnes purposefully rotates so as not to totally wear out a defender. Timing and circumstance also tend to play a part in those decisions.Pons leads the SEC in blocks and has in the same game guarded all 5 positions successfully. Bowden rarely guards the biggest offensive threat.
Don't forget Wideman & Beckwith both will be walk-ons to the team next season.
Wideman being a high 3/low 4 star on most rankings. .9124 composite and National top 200 player.
Don't think he starts or anything, but he adds some ridiculous depth as a walk-on that in any other class we'd be praising as a great get by Coach Barnes.
Honestly I’m not counting them until I see it happen...I know what they’ve said but many kids say that. If I’m Wideman and I get to campus and see Vescovi/Springer/James/Johnson/Bailey all in front on me and already acclimated with the team I’m not very interested in committing to a basketball season when I likely ride the pine. That’s a ton of time for him to invest already on football and then straight into basketball when he likely doesn’t get big minutes anyways.
Sorry I’m already looking toward next year, but I’m curious. What’s our starting lineup going to be next year?
Vescovi
Springer
Johnson
Pons
Fulky
JJJ, Walker, Bailey first off the bench?
Then we have
Ticket
Uros
Jalen
Pember
Hopefully we can get a good transfer at the 4-5 as well.

That's actually my point. James, Jalen, Santiago, Bowden, Gaines all rotate on the perimeter defense. I watched Pons almost exclusively shutdown Petty & Jones when we faced Alabama & Arkansas. He's not just standing around at the rim waiting to play "clean-up"
He's 1st on the team in blocks, 2nd in rebounds, 2nd in Defensive Win Share (behind Fulkerson) and has legit guarded 1 through 5. Bowden isn't bad, but there's a reason Pons with a still fairly limited offensive game is showing up in NBA Mock Drafts. He's a freak athlete who is an outstanding defender at multiple positions.

Come on man you are losing all credibility if you think pons isn’t switching off guys. The entire team switches on most screens
and pons is getting most of his blocks helping off inside
It's Pons. And in the same flipping post you quoted I said "has legit guarded 1 through 5" in order to do that he'd have to switch...
Who cares where he's getting his blocks or how, he leads the SEC as a 6'5"-6'6" forward.
Could be. Just don’t see football letting them go
Also for the record I think pons is a great defender and likely would get more votes for defensive player of the year due to stats.
I just think Bowden is a better overall defender and draws the tougher match up more often than pons
