As frustrating as Bowden has been on offence he has been exceptional on man to man defense. The game against Lawson was just the latest example. He moves his feet, stays in position and has the length to challenge jumpers. Pons is very good but in a different way. He will give you highlight blocks but is not the fundamental man to man defender Bowden is. Pons is very good at defending bigger guys inside which is something Bowden can't do. I am glad to have them both and don't underestimate the impact a big block has on how guys go to the paint the next time down the court and how it impacts their future shot selection. With JJJ, Springer and Keon we should have some shut down type defender next year that can give opposing teams fits.

Oddly enough, despite @BruinVol having some sort of axe to grind over the issue. Me believing Pons is better as an overall defender doesn't suddenly mean Bowden isn't phenomenal on the perimeter.

If this team had a healthy Turner, Bowden, and a fully healthy James all season with the addition of Santiago we'd be in a far better spot than we are, unfortunately some things haven't gone our way. Been a tough season, but watching the team each game you can see them learning and growing as players. I know Gaines is a lanky kid that's just a 3 star, but man he has a motor and plays hard. I hope he can add some offense this off-season, still hoping we have the ability to redshirt him and Pember and maybe even ORN or Walker. Need to space out the roster a bit, I don't want to see us lose 4-6 guys again...

My issue with your take is you said Bowden rarely guards the opponents best player

That is plain wrong

Not every team's best offensive player is a 2 guard Bruin, and when Turner was on the team he typically played defense on the best guard.

I will conceded that Bowden may be guarding the best guard/perimeter threat on the opposing team now, with Turner being gone and James being banged up. But considering how many teams top scorers aren't guards I'm not agreeing that Bowden is facing the best offensive player on the opponent's team every night.

This is going to hurt you to Answer but what team have we played so far where the primary scorer wasn’t a Perimeter player ?

And as for Turner he was a great on ball
Defender which meant he almost always had the PG. He rarely checked the off ball perimeter Player which is what Bowden does and is great at

Chattanooga (Ryan is a stretch forward, even if listed as a guard)
Washington
Memphis
VCU
Wisconsin
Vanderbilt
A&M
Miss St.
Kentucky (Quickley has more PPG, but Richards has more total Points I can see saying it's Quickley though won't argue much)

At least 7 teams we've played are lead in scoring by a Forward or Center.

You really expect me to believe that list is correct?

I mean if you want to claim
Vandys leading Scoring threat isn’t a Perimeter player you lose all credibility.

Miss state is the only team we have played that I recall was led by a post player. Maybe there is a few more but you can’t be trusted to tell us. And oh if pons is great stopper of post players tell me how that game against Perry went??

You don’t have to “trust me” plenty of websites exist to research stats. I listed teams that were lead in PPG by Forwards or Centers (at the time we played them).

Pretty simple stuff to look up, far better than just accepting what you recall as accurate. 😬

Vandy was led by a post player when we played them?

Got a name ?

Didn't say "post player" I said they were listed as either Forward or Center.

Lol.

Ok. Surely you understand the difference between a perimeter player and a post player but have it your way. give me the name of the forward/center that was vandys leading scorer when we played them the first time

Im patiently waiting

I get you like to argue, and I get that your "shtick" is to change the argument. But I don't know if you think it's "cool" to troll, or you're just in some sort of new ******* mode. I am however an ******* and here's what I said again quoted for you.

You're the one tossing around "perimeter" and "post" player designations, not I. I made the statement that not every team's best offensive players is a 2 guard. You asked me to list teams where that was true and I did, you've now shifted to saying "perimeter" player.

I mean if this is your new "thing" to be condescending then I'm not up for it honestly.

Aaron Nesmith is still their leading PPG scorer, and he's listed as a Forward.

Didn’t expect you to answer because you got caught being wrong again.
Vandy isn’t led by a forward or a center so there’s that

I’ll make this simple MOST teams are led in scoring by a perimeter player. That player might even be the 3 which Bowden is very suitable to guard and does in most cases.

Just in case you where forgetting that Naismith was out against us he exactly the kind of player Bowden Checks every game. It doesn’t really matter even if he’s listed as a forward which I doubt he’s a perimeter player that plays the 3 position.

Lol

Already answered but let me do it again because this is fun

1) he didn’t play against us

2) even if he did he’s a perimeter player that is a very good 3.

3) and to further my point that’s the exact kind of match up we would see Bowden getting

Lol

Weird with a G under the name but either way he’s a hell of a good perimeter player that doesn’t play

Never said he wasn’t a perimeter player. Just that he was listed as a Forward.

Best wishes though, no more time will be wasted with a troll.

I respect you think Pons is a better defender.

You are wrong that Bowden doesn’t guard the Opponents best player most of the time.

As I said before pons a great safety that cleans up over the top and Bowden is a shutdown corner. You are wrong to disagree with that

Good day

I’ve got no interest in entering this pissing contest, but I wonder if Naismith were to play against us would they put JJJ on him since they played together in hs?
