The Official “Regular Posters of the Basketball Forum” Thread

This may be stupid, but I feel kinda uneasy about the fact that we have 5 SEC-starter caliber guards. It's hard to describe, but I have a distant fear of chemistry being negatively affected...I dunno. Like I said, it's probably stupid.

I bet I will feel better as the season goes on and each player's role becomes more defined.

I think it’s a small concern. Barnes has never had a problem with it, but he’s gonna have to better at spreading minutes around as he said in the presser last night.

Something I had not really thought about until seeing it transpire during the CO game.

Covid related team and practice issues hurt offense more than defense. Kind of like the old saying “defense travels”.

We’ve are the best defensive team in the SEC. it’s probably not close.

That’s a big deal this year.

Why do you think covid hurts offenses?

Practice time. Continuity. Learning new teammates tendencies and abilities. Chemistry.

I thought that was where you were heading and yea that’s all true But I think it’s hurts defense as well when it forms communication and such

I guess I’d lean toward it hurting offense a little more like you say

I agree with the same reasons both of you stated that offense is hurt a little more but I wanted to voice why I think it does. Defense, it's more about structure and being where you need. Offense has those same requirements + a skill/finishing aspect that defense does not. Defense, you are just trying to be somewhere to stop something; a wall can do that technically. Offense, you are trying to get around that wall and finish a very technical skill on top of the physical portion on that side of the court. There's just more to it.

Spot on. Bruins is right about defense too as good defense relies a lot on communication and knowing when to hedge, rotate, call out picks, etc.

I saw JJJ look like he ran into a brick wall the other night in transition defense. That should've been called out.

This might be a generalized question, but didn’t he have issues with chemistry at Texas?

I honestly don’t know enough to say for sure but there did seem some issues regarding highly rated players.

I'm going to lose my **** if we just played nearly an entire football season after numerous cancellations occur, but we cancel basketball after a week or two of a rough start.

The big man upstairs hates Tennessee though so it will be so fitting to have the one thing bringing us joy taken from us, and replaced with a press conference next week by Fulmer announcing how lucky we are to keep Pruitt and help him build a new staff.

Basilio source told him games will be paused until January and then conference only (if I heard it right).

Honestly...right decision. Just play two conference games each, home/home Wednesday and Saturday same opponent. That’s 26 games. That’s a good number
