The Official “Regular Posters of the Basketball Forum” Thread

I've never understood the weird nostaligic "puritan" view of major college sports like football and basketball. It's not the 50s anymore.

There is three reasons:

1) Every “older generation” (not everyone but the majority) just wants to keep things the way it is and get jealous when the younger generation gets treated better or different. Or they can’t change their view even in the face of logic. This happens for every generation and goes outside sports as well.

2) They think that college sports will become professional sports and they have a certain view of professional sports they don’t like. Look at how people react to the transfer rules.

3) They want minorities (who are very prevalent in the two major college sports) to shut just up and be grateful for what they have and stop causing a big fuss and stop ruining “their” sports.

Great line by one of Basilio’s bloggers today:

A bowl defeat would mean Pruitt's program lost eight of its last nine games and eight in a row against all male teams.

I really don’t know how to explain it, I just now that the youth of today (including people my age) and just society in general is too coddled. For Jesus sakes we changed the name of the Redskins (who I refuse to call the football team) I just long for the days people weren’t so offended by everything 🤷‍♂️

Ahhhh yes who doesn’t long for segregation, massive gender inequality, the Draft and bigotry against homosexuals. The good old days 😍😍😍

People mostly romanticize the 50’s because income inequality wasn’t nearly as large as it is now.

I encourage those same people to look up how taxes worked in the 50’s

Biggest hypocrisy in sports today.

If you claim to be a supporter of capitalism, yet believe players shouldn’t profit off their name and likeness because an organization has made arbitrary rules and is a monopoly says so...you are not a capitalist.
Capitalism has nothing to do with being an amateur or a pro. You either support amateur athletics or you don't. There is a big difference in the 2 and capitalism has nothing to do with it.

The irony of you complaining about changing the nickname of a football team and saying society is too coodled and everyone is offended.

LOL....and sorry but I know exactly how to explain it.
