The Official “Regular Posters of the Basketball Forum” Thread

If the Braves ever cave, and as Braves fan it pains to say it, but is likely a foregone conclusion, I hope they point out that in Cherokee, NC, on Cherokee land is Cherokee High School, and their nickname is the Braves. If it is good enough for the Cherokee tribe to honor themselves with the nickname, then it ought to be good enough for Atlanta to honor them with the baseball team nickname.

I’m fine with eliminating the stereotypes like the war chant, the trite “Indian” references, and such, but the name should be allowed to stay.
Totally agree. There's something off-putting about the war chants and "chops" that many native-themed teams have. Doing away with that and much outdated imagery could go a long way for teams looking to keep their namesake.

the shut up and dribble thought is way more than about race. Sure there may be a very very small percentage that have a racist view tor it but there are two main reasons some people want athletes to shut up and dribble

1) most people don’t want their sports and politics to mix. They don’t want to hear views even if they agree because they want an escape from it all with their sports

2) in today’s world many people simply cant view athletes as real people. It’s why I’ve argued for years on here it takes real scum to tweet at a players family regarding their poor play. Many People have lost all touch with the human side of sports and thus don’t want to think of athletes having real world views

neither of those things have anything to do with race

Calling BS on this one, at least the part about not hearing the views they agree with.

Amazing to me that folks don't understand how amateur and professional sport differ. Everything is about $$$ to today's young generation, sad I think.

Yes, clearly it's all us, and not you. Are you one of these guys that thinks if you just keep repeating something it makes it true?

Just my opinion

I believe anyone should be allowed to play professionally any time they want......as long as the “professional” team picked them up, signed then, drafted or whatever.

“If” this were done, I also believe college sports should be left alone.....as far as “pay” is concerned.

I feel simply allowing athletes to be paid will basically only help the “few” anyway......the “majority” will see little to no benefit.

Those who see the $$ would eventually anyway; however if you allow them to play professionally they “could” anytime.

Most athletes don’t get a full ride. Most have to pay or have loans. Heck some D2 and D3 athletes have to pay for some of their own gear in order to play. These athletes will not be helped by this new rule...........the rich get richer.......that’s all it is........nothing to do with fairness.

I also believe the rich will get richer as far as the schools go as well.

Where can a football player make the most (those who “could”).......at Bama, at Ohio State......ect........sure they get the 5*’s anyway.......but I believe it will only increase.

Allow anyone the opportunity to make money from their likeness from the get go.......the same rout everyone else does.......by going pro from the get go..........this “allows” everyone the “same” opportunity, and it doesn’t give “some” athletes or “some” schools “more” than anyone else.

There is three reasons:

1) Every “older generation” (not everyone but the majority) just wants to keep things the way it is and get jealous when the younger generation gets treated better or different. Or they can’t change their view even in the face of logic. This happens for every generation and goes outside sports as well.

2) They think that college sports will become professional sports and they have a certain view of professional sports they don’t like. Look at how people react to the transfer rules.

3) They want minorities (who are very prevalent in the two major college sports) to shut just up and be grateful for what they have and stop causing a big fuss and stop ruining “their” sports.

“Amateurism” died decades ago once we started hiring full time coaches
I've seen a lot of interesting things on VolNation discussed, but this might be the most "unique" thing I've seen.

I’ll allow @BruinVol to get in the last word and then I’ll stop cluttering up the thread and get it a little more focused lol

I’ll add the reason I have “issues” with the likeness deal. It’s not that I am against it it’s that I think it needs serious structure.

I think it’s a licensed to cheat meaning the highest bidder is going to get the recruits by providing them with the highest purchaser of their likeness.

That’s why I am against it without serious structure

So let me say this, right now what impresses me the most about Jaden Springer specifically...

2nd on the team in PPG at 12.5 now, 6th in MPG at 19.5, leads the team in FG% at 65.5% and leads the team in 3PT% at 80.0%

He's one of the most efficient scorers in the country right now, as a true freshmen with an abbreviated off-season. I LOVE THIS TEAM!

Also, last night his 6 rebounds, 6 assists with zero turnovers was impressive. He made some really unselfish passes to his teammates.

If TN loses a bowl game, Pruitt will match what has only happened twice EVER (in 1906 and 1909). Finishing 5 games under 0.500. Right now he’s matched the 4 games under 0.500 which only Butch’s 4-8 team in 2017 has accomplished. Majors’ worst year was his first. 4-7 in 1977. Fulmer (2008) and Dooley (2011 and 2012) are members of the 2 under 0.500 brotherhood. Rarified air down there.

Starting to sound like Pruitt may not have to worry about the bowl game.

Just a reminder to everybody that joined Yankee's Yahoo NBA League, that the draft is tonight at 8:30, EST. Bring your A+ draft game, tonight, because I've already done 3 mock drafts, so I know I will bring mine.

I talked all that sh!t and I feel like it was my worst draft, yet. Still, I'm a playoff team. I always seem to get the last pick

Edit: go read the sh!t talking I did on the message board, runner-ups
