Don’t think we’ve had anyone average 8 boards a game since Stokes. Stokes was a freak, ORN is not
Not claiming ORN is a freak, but his ceiling is very high. I don't normally call my shot with players at this stage of their development without much of a resume, but I can him see being one of the better post players in the league. He has good size, doesn't get pushed around, good athlete, and has shown he has a solid stroke.

Another leap of development for Olivier and I think he starts next year. He's starting to play physically at a higher level, just needs his mental to catch up.

Don't be surprised when he averages 10/8 next season, especially if he can perfect the P/R with Chandler coming in.
I’d really love for this to be true, and while he has improved as a rebounder, he is still a long ways away from averaging 8 boards per game. He currently doesn’t even average 8 rebounds per 40 minutes.

It's a bit of a hot take, but this is under the assumption he takes another leap. A player he's mentioned he'd like to model his game after is Rodman. Sounds like he wants to be a garbage man and is willing to embrace that role.

Like I said, I REALLY want it to happen, mainly because we are going to need it. I guess I’m just skeptical because rebounding has been such an issue for him thus far. I’d probably be more apt to believe he’ll average double digits in scoring before I’d believe he’d average 8 rebounds, but getting both from him would be a goldmine. Grant Williams never did it. Tobias Harris didn’t do it. Only Jarnell Stokes and Jeronne Maymon have done it in the last 10 years, and only Wayne Chism and Ron Slay in the 10 years before that. Rebounding just seems like the kind of thing you are either really good at, or you aren’t. It’s a mindset, like Rodman had. I have never seen that mindset from ON and I don’t think it’s the kind of trait you can really learn to have. You’ve either got it or you don’t. Maybe he can become the exception to that rule. I sure hope so.

I think ON averaging 8 rebounds next year is just barely more likely than Gaines averaging 10 ppg

Haha that made me laugh. I really need to learn how to just disengage after losses like some of y'all seem to do, but I just cant resist

I will say compared to football, basketball losses make me angry. Football I really haven't cared that much in years; even in the Butch years I didn't get worked up. But tonight I was angry after we lost and watching the game just slip away.

Man I am too. My heart sinks at the end of basketball losses in a way it just doesnt with football anymore. I just dont go crazy and lose any sort of perspective on the program every time we under-perform (and to be clear, I am NOT saying thats you, just saying many do on here)

I’m the opposite. Bb losses annoy the hell out of me, but they never make me mad. Maybe because the nature of the season.

We handed it away with FTs And layups and stupif turnovers

Turnovers were killers. They are a good defensive team but their offense is so putrid you just can’t give them turnovers and easy points

That half court trap was a good look. Credit to them. We never really adjusted. Something good to work on.

I had a really positive takeaway though. Keon flashed today. Just so many “holy s***” moments from him. The ball didn’t go in the hoop this time, but it will eventually. Just some explosive drives and direction changes from him.

Hes close but until he starts converting it’s not helping us. But clearly has that potential and why he’s so involved. Hoping he can get over the hump soon. When he becomes a scoring threat it will make a huge difference

You know I had a thought once when I went to Kentuckys board after we beat them in the SEC tourney about how terrible their basketball fans are because of some of the real vile stuff I saw but thinking about it and seeing how quickly some posts are removed on VN its probably moreso that their mods were just way too lenient and/or lazy and the ones here are much more diligent in getting rid of that kind of stuff. So I appreciate that

Might be because you’ve watched the entire second half with the knowledge that the game was already lost? With basketball, we’re usually thinking there’s a chance until the clock hits zero.

This place, woof.

Yeah but let's be honest, that second half collapse was pretty woof too. It's not the end of the season or any of the ledge jumper stuff.....but that was some bad basketball for the final 8:00 or so. Like almost had to try to be that bad basketball. It would be one thing if Ole Miss was just on, but they hardly played some great ball either.

Moving forward I want the offense to run through Keon and Jaden.

That was maddening to me. I texted friends asking "How many times are we going to let that happen"? It was like watching a rerun over and over. That part I blame on Barnes and the coaches, they had no adjustment or if they did the team wasn't getting it.

The other maddening thing is when they weren't doing that we were simply just giving the ball to OM. How many 1 on 1 steals happened? Seems like about 50. Some of them our guy might as well just have handed the ball to the Ole Miss defender and said "Here you go." Yeah OM was getting away with being physical but that wasn't the cause of most of that; it was just really sloppy ball handling.
