Barnes needs to win more in NCAAT, you won’t find anyone who disagrees with that, but he’s also built us into the best program in the SEC over the last 5-6 years.
I’m sure if he breaks through the narrative will just turn to 1/5 is pathetic or something like that, but it will definitely quiet some of the critics and increase the support from those who already support him.Agreed. I think Barnes just needs one great March run, just one, and it would completely change his legacy here. If he could find a way to make that elusive Final Four our program has shockingly never had, even the biggest Barnes Bashers would likely shut up.
His success in the regular season is undeniable. One of the best coaches to walk through our doors likely ever. I truly hope Barnes can find a way to break through in March before he retires, because he deserves to go down as one of, if not definitively the best coach in program history.
If this article is accurate as of 2021 we had 4th most NCAAT appearances without a final four…I mean hell freaking South Carolina has a Final Four. Loyola Chicago! George Mason!!!
Most of the vocal critics have been silenced as of late. I’m sure they’re waiting anxiously for us to lose a game badly to resurface with their toxic views. Only way to quiet the legions of the miserable is to win every game so I expect to hear from them again this seasonI’m sure if he breaks through the narrative will just turn to 1/5 is pathetic or something like that, but it will definitely quiet some of the critics and increase the support from those who already support him.

Bingo….I made a post 2 years ago listing P5 teams that won 90+ games over last 4 seasons so 2017-2018 through 2020-2021. This was it…And that goes completely overlooked by people who only want to judge programs based on NCAAT results.

The top programs never to make the men's Final Four

Bingo….I made a post 2 years ago listing P5 teams that won 90+ games over last 4 seasons so 2017-2018 through 2020-2021. This was it…
Gonzaga: 155-16, 4NCAAT, 90.6%, 10-3
Virginia: 107-20, 3NCAAT, 84.2%, 6-2
Houston: 111-24, 82.2%, 3NCAAT, 7-3
Villanova: 104-28, 78.7%, 3NCAAT, 9-2
Kansas: 106-30, 3NCAAT, 77.9%, 6-3
Michigan: 105-32, 3NCAAT, 76.6%, 10-3
Duke: 99-31, 2NCAAT, 76.1%, 6-2
Florida State: 96-32, 3NCAAT, 75%, 7-3
Michigan State: 99-34, 3NCAAT, 74.4%, 5-3

Kentucky: 90-40, 2NCAAT, 69.2%, 5-2
Purdue: 90-42, 3NCAAT, 68.1%, 5-3
Add in last years results and this is that list updated, I didn’t add new teams so I’m sure there’s some that would’ve joined the list, but still, this now is a 5 year list…
Gonzaga: 127-12, 4NCAAT, 92.7%, 12-4
Virginia: 128-34, 3NCAAT, 79%, 6-2
Houston: 143-30, 4NCAAT, 82.6%, 10-4
Kansas: 140-36, 4NCAAT, 79.5%, 12-3
Villanova: 134-36, 4NCAAT, 78.8%, 13-3
Duke: 131-38, 3NCAAT, 77.5%, 10-3
Baylor: 120-42, 3NCAAT, 74.0%, 8-2
Michigan: 124-47, 4NCAAT, 72.5%, 12-4
Michigan State: 122-47, 4NCAAT, 72.1%, 6-4
Tennessee: 119-46, 4NCAAT, 72.1%, 4-4
Florida State: 113-46, 3NCAAT, 71%, 7-3
Kentucky: 116-48, 3NCAAT, 70.7%, 5-3
Purdue: 119-50, 4NCAAT, 70.4%, 7-4
Texas Tech: 121-51, 4NCAAT, 70.3%, 11-4
Oregon: 113-55, 2NCAAT, 67.2%%, 4-2
Records this year so far:
Gonzaga: 15-3
Virginia: 12-3
Houston: 17-1
Kansas: 15-1
Villanova: 8-9
Duke: 13-4
Baylor: 11-5
Michigan: 9-7
Michigan State: 12-4
Tennessee: 14-2
Florida State: 5-12
Kentucky: 10-6
Purdue: 15-1
Texas Tech: 10-6
Oregon: 9-8
Again, nobody is disputing we can/should/need to win more in the NCAAT, but the same ones bashing the postseason lack of success fail to acknowledge that he’s elevated this to a Top 10-15 program nationally over the last 5-6 year.
