It’s possible, but as of now it doesn’t look like any of Edwards, Jefferson, Phillips or Awaka will look to transfer…and I’m fine with that. If no transfers, just lose the seniors that leaves room for 2 portal additions and would be a very deep roster. And yes I agree, and think the staff feels the same, an addition at PG is necessary, even if it’s a CG.

Yeah, 13 spots

Return
5: Guards - ZZ, BJ Edwards, DJ Jefferson, Freddie, Mashack
3: Forwards - Aidoo, Julian, Awaka

Incoming
2: Forwards - Cade, JP
1: Guard - Carr

Lose a lot of experience, but thankfully Mashack, Aidoo and Awaka are clocking more minutes than expected this year with the injuries. Agree though that you let the 5 seniors (counting Key) all leave, next year would be a team filled with Freshmen and Sophomores before adding the 2 portal guys.

For whatever reason I just feel like DJ will end up being the odd man out eventually.

Not an impossible thought, but he’s happy here and the staff likes his upside. They’ve been using him more in that wing, small ball 4 role than as a guard which I thought was interesting. Which makes some sense, not far off measurables of Pons (obviously not as big) but an athletic freak like him.

They had Yuri locked up, that one still is a sore subject among the staff because yes, they really wanted to add a PG to the roster and be able to just play Key off the ball. I would strongly suggest that there’s a very good chance a portal PG will be added this offseason and that the staff already has had their ears to the ground.
Good.

I'd be hunting a PG, preferably one who can shoot the ball, and an off-guard who is deadly from 3.

DJ could also be an Armani Moore type for us. Barnes has shown no problem finding ways to get the defensive athletes on the floor more. Pons is our best example, but even the previous two years when we saw JJJ at the 4 to allow Santi, Springer, and Keon to play together (man that team with KC would have been ELITE).

So really if DJ is happy and the staff thinks they can develop him don't know why he'd want to leave. He's got good size at 6'5" and about 200lbs and still has 4 years of eligibility. Practicing against the guys he's had to already and the new talent incoming he could turn himself into quite a defensive utility player (like JJJ and Mashack).

I've never really viewed DJ as a defensive player based off his HS tape

HS tape is a terrible indicator for most players of what they are capable of in college. And are you basing it off his actual high school tape or just the highlights?

I'm not suggesting he can't be a solid defender but he was billed as a scorer out of HS iirc

His defense is what hurt his chances of contributing this year, he’s more advanced offensively…but that plays into that 4 role, easier to reach him to use his athleticism and guard a 4 than trying to get quicker laterally and guard 1-3.

I think PG is likely priority 1, and then a best available whether that’s an off guard or a post. A lot can change between now and then but that’s my take as of today.
I think we need a 6’2”-6’4” PG that’s quick and has good handles to counter the play style of Zeigler at 5’9”. I don’t know what options are out there but ideally they would split time at PG and then I would say Barnes would likely run a small ball lineup like he did when he had Chandler and Zeigler on the floor at the same time last year. We just gotta find a PG who fits that mold.

Honestly I’ve been looking at PGs at other schools a lot lately, and I really like a guy at Louisiana Lafayette named Themus Fulks. He’s 6’1” 175, he’s quick, he’s a good facilitator, he averages 9.3ppg 3rpg and 6.2apg, he also shoots 37% from 3 and is overall a 44% shooter from the field. He’s also probably in a position to where he can enter the portal and go to a much better school in terms of conference he plays in and such. I don’t know what type of guy we are looking for in a PG next year, but this guy is the type of guy I would like to see.

I think Dilione fits that mold enough to where you don’t use a spot on that, I would go with someone similar to Zeigler, ideally a bit taller though. 5’11”-6’1” quick PG but maybe a bit more scoring oriented than Zeigler.

The released text to Miller from Miles that said “bring me my gun” seems to refute the part of the statement that Miller didn’t know there was a gun in the car….but I guess they are playing the dumb card and saying that Miller never saw that text until after the incident.
I think that’s the impression the lawyer is trying to give off, but he doesn’t actually claim it. He says as Miles is texting Miller, Miller doesn’t know the context and is driving. Doesn’t mean Miller didn’t see the text after it was sent, while driving (or after parking and before Miller gets in). Later the lawyer says Miller “never touched the gun, was not involved in the exchange to Mr. Davis in any way, and never knew that illegal activity with the gun would occur,” but not that he didn’t know that Miles wanted the gun while driving over. Otherwise the last clause above is unnecessary.

As far as transfers next year, my want beyond a PG, which I think everybody agrees is a need, depends on whether the staff thinks Jullian can be a 4 consistently as a sophmore. If not then I’d want another big as Jonas and Tobe would be the only ones with any experience, and they’re both liable to get into foul trouble early

Honestly if there isn't any unexpected attrition (only the 5 seniors leave). I'd be fine with a guard that's quick and can get to the rim and then an experienced post that's just a rebounding/defensive specialist and can play the 4 or 5.

If that guard is a true PG or a CG wouldn't bother me...Jordan Bone type of mold.

I feel like that’s what Awaka and Aidoo are more of, I would think some offense from that position would be a nice addition.

Basilio...as always, TIFWIW...is insinuating that Julian Phillips internal circle isn't happy with how the year has panned out.

I wonder if it’s NIL.

I think that I’ve only noticed JJJ and ZZ actually making appearances or endorsements. “NIL” is really a joke - it’s just a way to launder pay for play.
