I was wrong about JJJ

Gainey picked up that slack. JJJ & Santi helped us win with their defense & rebounding last night.

I feel like Aidoo, ZZ, Santi, & JJJ all going through the experiences they have while here will have this year’s team very focused for a tournament run.

Even if we have a bad offensive night it’s going to take a really good team having a great night to beat us.

The officials ruled that ZZ touched the ball after discussion, which he obviously did not. However, it wasn't under 2 minutes, so they couldn't review it. Just a bad call, and it resulted in 3 points for AU on the ensuing possession.

And it might have amounted to a 5 or 6 point swing if we had scored on our (missed) possession.

This is probably a foolish take and one I’ll surely regret, but idk why but mid majors don’t scare me with this team. Feels like Aidoo will get his against most, Awaka too strong, and they’re unlikely to have anybody that can even slow down Knecht a little bit. Like I said, already regret typing it lol, but just a feeling.

As long as it isn't FAU.

I’m not digging him, I predicted a double double for him last night. That’s what I was referring to. I thought it would be necessary to win.

This exact photo happened like 3-4 times in the final 5 minutes of the game and none of them were called fouls. Did not realize bear hugging was a legal guarding position now.

If I’m Barnes, I’m telling ZZ to just throw DK a back shoulder fade every time a team does this. The defender won’t see the ball and will knock DK down, should be an auto foul.

It was horrible, ZZ's hand was like a foot away. It almost makes me wish there was a coaches' challenge 1 time per half, though I don't want to slow down the game more. Still, that could have greatly affected the end of the game.

Their active hands kept us in the lead all 1H when shots weren’t falling. They were massive last night, even if it didn’t show up in the stat sheet.

It was horrible, ZZ's hand was like a foot away. It almost makes me wish there was a coaches' challenge 1 time per half, though I don't want to slow down the game more. Still, that could have greatly affected the end of the game.

Yeah, if you're only going to go to the monitor under 2 minutes, a coach's challenge per half is a fair compromise. It would have really been beneficial in that situation. Instead of getting the ball with an opportunity to go up by 9 or 10, we find ourselves up only 4.

They’re trending to be 11/12 seed, so unless we fall to a 3 seed it doesn’t seem very likely.

Another observation: every foul that was called on Auburn had the corresponding Auburn response….hands in the air, shaking heads, etc. EVERY FOUL.

Also, Auburn’s defense resorts to jersey tugging, two hands around defenders, and blatant fouls. Tennessee plays chest-to-chest, hard-nosed, without all the grabbing and literal holding.

That was possibly the worst call I've seen all year. ZZ wasn't even close to touching the ball.

Yeah, I said if Santi & JJJ combined for 20 we’d win comfortably. Thankfully Gainey & Awaka showed up to help.

I really didn't feel like Gainey picked up the slack. He was -8 and went 1-6 with 1 assist and 1 TO and 3 rebounds. He did hit his 4 foul shots, but his jump shot was wayyyy off.

He's worked out well as a back-up, and I don't want to look ahead at next year in exchange for enjoying this year, but the idea of him having to be a starter next year makes me really nervous.

Exactly. His philosophy is to hold, grab, and muscle and hope it isn’t called, then adjust accordingly.

I can’t imagine spending time coaching guys to do that stuff. Teaching a player to sell a foul call is a different animal than teaching this to do this garbage.

He scored 7 & was 4-4 from the FT line. When he came in he drove to the rim & got calls. He wasn’t efficient, but drawing those fouls & hitting his free throws helped offset Santi & JJJ not scoring.

Sorry guys. Watching the replay in detail. Broome is a whiner. Incredible passer. Gifted moves down low, though. James has made some incredible blocks. Pearl literally past half court on a possession late in the game and this is after his technical foul.

No need to apologize. You’re completely correct. Broome whined for 40 minutes last night. It was annoying. Constantly acting like he was being cheated.

I can agree with him that the officials sucked, but to act like it was an unfairly called game is just dumb. I can think of plenty of examples where officials let Auburn mug our players and there was no call. For example, when Auburn made its big run in the 2nd half, there was a moment where Auburn missed a shot and Jaylen Williams straight up pushed one of our players away from the glass to rebound the ball and put the shot back for 2 points. No call on a clear arm bar.
