The Official “Regular Posters of the Basketball Forum” Thread

SIAP, don’t see it, but Mark Sears is returning for Alabama. They’re scary. I think the perception around here is Barnes owns Oats bc of the last two years but I recall struggling against him in his first few years at Bama, and I’d argue next year’s roster may well be his best at Alabama despite having a number one overall seed and a Final Four appearance

Except Oats’s teams have a tendency to fold against physical defensive teams.

Our style of play is a great match up against them.

Not worried about Bama next year.

What has happened to Michael Porter Jr's. family in the last several months is just unreal. Jontay Porter was banned for life from the NBA for gambling on games. Conan Porter was sentenced to six years in prison for DWI causing death to a woman and injuring her passenger. Jevon Porter was arrested for DWI in April.

Their parents are extreme evangelical types.

Those kids (except Michael) all seem to invoke the stereotype that is common for overly sheltered evangelicals.

Like how the biggest partiers were always the preachers kids growing up

Andy Katz has us ranked preseason 22 when he did his rankings, thought that was a joke but like the idea of this team getting no media attention and flying under the radar so bama can get all the praise

Imagine drafting Lonzo Ball and Markelle Fultz in front of Jayson Tatum.
To me this is a lot more defensible than Luka falling to three. I remember being blown away that a guy dominating the second best professional league in the world as a teenager wasn’t the number one pick, and I’m still blown away years later. Tatum going at 3 didn’t register as a crazy thing to me and I don’t remember people being over the top critical at the time

Lakers should've chose DeAaron Fox instead of Lonzo Ball.

My guess for why Luka wasn’t consensus #1 is that maybe teams were concerned about his work ethic / conditioning. Or maybe that his athleticism wouldn’t translate.

Or perhaps Ricky Rubio was on their minds. Not that Ricky was ever bad. He was a fine NBA player that struggled with injuries. But he never lived up to the hype he had coming from a very similar situation as Luka.

Idk. Those are my best guesses. Everyone involved in not drafting him should never work in basketball again lol

I feel bad a bit for both of them because generally speaking I kind of forget they even played here because that season was so meh by Barnes standards here.
That year made me not a fan of the recruitment of one and dones. I think Barnes got what he could out of that squad that didn't have a PG on the roster, by being 4th in the SEC. Suppose that is what to expect when your two best players were freshman. The group really regressed the last month of the year and wonder if both Springer and Johnson already knew what they were going to do with the draft. Still a big upgrade from the year prior though, where we wouldn't have made the tournament if COVID hadn't occurred.

Nice to see Springer getting the chance to win a NBA championship in Boston although he rarely gets on the floor, but yet only 21 years old. As Jrue Holiday gets older (33), if he can replace that role maybe he can extend his NBA career. Don't expect the odds of Keon staying in the league for a long period are as likely. He may be better off going overseas, if he can't get another multi-year contract. He has earned a pretty good income thus far ($8-$10M - before taxes) but at 22 years old, has a long way to go.
