The Official “Regular Posters of the Basketball Forum” Thread

They are really delusional over there. Some want to bench Iamaleava and play Gaston Moore instead.

I haven’t seen many, or maybe any, comments about Bru McCoy going out early with an injury. The Nimrods and Squirrels just aren’t elite.

I wonder why UT didn’t run more 12. Especially after losing Bru. Maybe they anticipated Arkansas devoting a lot of time to defend it and UT’s coaches outsmarted themselves by not using it much.

Catch the dam punts and don’t run into the dam punter when it’s 4th and less than 5 yards to go.
On the running into the kicker penalty, wasn't Ross chipped and effectively blocked into the punter? I thought that was a weird call because I remembered (perhaps misremembered) that not counting if you were blocked into the kicker/punter.

I don't know for sure but I want to say the rule changed several years ago that it doesn't matter if you're "blocked" into the punter or not.

If Oklahoma doesn't turn things around and end up being a 9-win team, I'm not certain 10-2 does it for us with the loss to Arkansas. NC State is garbage, so we likely only have 2 shots at marquee wins outside of Oklahoma. Losing a game to a team we were -14 against really hurts the résumé. If we split those two, go 10-2, then I think an argument exists where we still may need some help. NC State being awful really hurts our schedule strength.
With all the SEC teams beating up on each other, if we go 10-2 we are in without question. We only fell to 8/9 in rankings. What ranking do you think we have if we win all the rest of our games (minus 1 vs UGA/ALA) and have a win vs UGA/ALA? Easily end up Top 5 in rankings. No way to leave that team out of rankings. Unbelievable what fans saw from all the Top 15 teams that played and don't understand the landscape we are in now with this season.

That was a weak call that was awarded to a European soccer player auditioning for a Broadway play.

If that’s the case, I would intentionally do it on every punt. That’s ridiculous. You still can’t block a gunner into a returner to cause a fumble on a punt (I don’t think), so why is it logical that you could intentionally block a defender into the punter to initiate a flag?

That frustration isn’t directed at you and your reply, which I appreciate. Just the idiocy of the rule if what you’re saying is correct.

I could be wrong, I just thought several years ago I saw a play where a guy was clearly blocked into a punter and the announcers said it didn't matter. I'm talking like 10 years ago, but time has no meaning to me anymore so it could have been longer.

I don't recall seeing any UT coaches complaining nor did Ross seem to react like it was a bogus call. I know that's not exactly proof either. I haven't seen anyone in the media call it out as wrong, only Ross did it.

I was mad at some missed holding calls against the Hogs, but I can’t complain about the roughing call. He hit him across the head with his arm, seemed pretty obvious to me to be a penalty. Dumb freshman mistake

Granted, this is the NFL interpretation. I doubt college is different, but I won't completely dismiss that possibility. My guess is that they deemed that his general direction was not altered, although that lends to a lot of interpretation, IMO. It takes a great deal of guesswork on an officials part to predict where a defender might have been going. Water under the bridge as it were, but I was interested to know the rule because the possibility wasn't even mentioned on the broadcast.

10-2 anyway gets us in. SEC will get at least 4 unless something crazy happens.

You can talk about NC State, but Wisconsin (Bama), Wake Forest (Ole Miss), BC (Missouri) aren’t good either. There are only 6 undefeated teams left; there is a lot of season left.

He was blocked into him. He tried to sidestep the punter like when you squeeze by in a crowd with your arms up. The punter flopped.

Like I said, I'm just not certain it's clear-cut that we control our own destiny by losing another game, not that we definitely don't make it in at 10-2, or that it's even necessarily doubtful that we would. All I said was that it opens the door for a discussion based on how the other SEC teams perform. As you said, there's a lot of football yet to be played.

The most annoying thread currently on the FF is the one wanting Omari crucified for shoving some overzealous fan who decided to try and push his way through our team exiting the field. That Moran was fortunate none our or disappointed players didn’t bitch slap him.

He shouldn't be crucified but I think the people bending over backwards to defend Omari are kinda dumb too. You can't do that. Also just saying, we have some hypocrites in the fanbase, they wanted to crucify the Alabama guy who shoved the girl.

You're an idiot if you are trying to defend what he did in any way.
