The Official #1 Tennessee @ Illinois Game Thread, 5:30 PM ET, FOX

Man, I know the calls go both ways, but there were some terrible calls against Tennessee.
None-the-less, very nice ending! I think my blood pressure will go back down in a few minutes.
So much grit by Tennessee.
I will give it to Illinois for their persistence as a team and how they have a huge fan presence right in the middle of the court.

Yep, both ways! But when the distribution is 90/10 it still stinks and is worthy of the public disdain they are receiving. Glad we get to mention after a win, and avoid the bad loser crap.

The ones I was around in TBA last year were awful. One spent the entire time before the game explaining to his kid who was about 7 how stupid all the students at Tennessee were and how they would never be able to get into Illinois.
That's just things losers say. We've been hearing that from Vandy fans for years.

PS. Who would want to go to Illinois?

This just in Igor tried another unsuccessful three. Just kidding. Great win. Go Vols!!!

It's baffling. Stroke is good, ball usually looks on point but always slong or short (TWSS) and misses.

I prefer to drive aggressively to the basket for a dunk, layup or contact. He has had multiple strong drives this season but quite a few weak ones where he stops in a crowd 5 feet short of the basket and usually turns it over or puts up a weak shot attempt.

Love Igor's ceiling, but he needsto be more aggressive by relying on his athletic ability and ball handling along with his size to physically dominate most defenders and then let the outside shot come after some of those go down. He could learn a lot from watching Cade and incorporate that urgency and focused aggression along with the multitude of skills and be better on offense.....though I do love that his defense and especially rebounding are great.

Illinois had more fouls called on them than Vols. They probably thought calls were on both sides, too
No they didn't, we had 24 called on us and they had 21. Most of the ones called on us were in the second half as they were in the double bonus for the last 8 minutes. They literally had to intentionally foul us twice just for us to get to the 1 and 1 with less than a minute to go.

you are correct, I reversed it. Regardless, the fouls were basically even but if you followed the game
thread you would have thought it was one sided. It was a very physical game and most of the fouls
called were legit (give or take 2 or 3). There were some ticky-tac fouls called both ways.

The no call when I'll player lowered his shoulder twice and sent Mashack to the floor was pitiful.
It was definitely an offensive foul and quite close to a flagrant 1.
Had that been called at the time it would have made a big difference in the game.

Huge win Illinois can play defense , but so can we. I sure thought we'd lost when Zach missed the free throw and then fouled them on the other end. He only made one and what a play by Gainey. He was the player of the game made some big shots and we had to have everyone of them. They get 36 free throws to our 28 and they made 30 to our twenty. Looks like were working Dubar into the rotation we need him SEC is going to be like this every game.

Still over the moon about this game! We weathered the perfect storm. Illinois is right up there with us in terms of defense efficiency and this game was always going to be an absolute rock fight. Up there with Texas Tech in the Garden in terms of ugly shooting nights. We had ZZ on the bench for the bulk of the second half. Lanier fouled out by the end. But we had Milicic owning the boards, Mashack doing Mashack things and getting fouls called on his chin, Gainey going out of his mind. Meaningful minutes from Boswell and Dubar and Phillips. Heck Okpara had a pedestrian game at best and even just him picking up three personals in his limited minutes meant we weren’t in that much deeper foul trouble somewhere else. Total team victory in a fantastic hostile environment in a game where half Illinois’s points came at the stripe. Statement win.
