Unfortunately, It hasn't been just one game. I'm still hopeful we can have a good season. But the complaint with Barnes even going back to when he was at Texas was his gamely coaching and inability to perform in the tourney. We've underachieved in every NCAA tourney we've made it to. But like I said, I'm hopeful that if BHH is developed that will take some stress off of our shooting and give us another scoring option. Chandler doesn't have anyone reliable in the paint to pass it to right now.
I fee like we’ve had decent numbers in our rotation and minutes played the rest of the year, but was a little odd tonight that we shortened up the bench so much in the second half and OT I thought.I will say this game highlights my biggest gripe with Barnes.
Early in a season when we should be playing guys less minutes and getting more players experience he seems to favor his starters.
So later in the season we’re relying on depth with guys who got limited minutes.
Mashack & BHH barely on court. Low minutes for Olivier and Powell.
He basically stuck with KC, ZZ, Santi, JJJ, Fulk & Bailey.
3rd in SEC from deep before this game…stats don’t lie.If you are a bad perimeter shooting team - and we are, stats don't lie - and you don't have a dominant post game - and we don't - then relying on a half court inside to outside offensive game makes no sense to me. And if you are a poor free throw shooting team - and we are - that reveals a lack of player focus - and that reflects on coaching. I don't think it's too early to accept what we are seeing, what our eyes are telling us - We are once again a poor offensive team. Our offense is very easy to defend and have opponents aggressive defenses turn our offense over for easy transition baskets. This approach isn't working. So far, his offense is a failure. Barnes needs to adjust his approach to offense to suit his player's strengths and minimize their weaknesses.
