The Official 2nd Amendment Appreciation Thread

It's a proof mark that indicates the gun was made in Germany, or in your gun's case, West Germany. It's not a WWII era gun, BUT it's still from an era of important to history. That's what makes it a cool piece. Here's a serial number guide that may help you date it further.

Since we are talking about WWII era guns and I like showing off, this is a pre WWII gun I own. It's one of the first M1 Garands received by the Army in their initial deliveries after adoption. It's serial number 1474.

How in the world did you get a hold of that? That is awesome.

Finally got to shoot the 270 with the axiom stock on. I give all the credit in the world to black hawk for that stock. It reduced the recoil by at least half. Very impressed.

Thanks for posting
That's cool

There's a pic of it in here already I believe, and I won't have it in front of me until the 1st of August.

Kudos to Springfield customer service.

I went to do a take down on my Range Officer compact. I had tried before but was unable to remove the recoil spring/guide rod. I watched a video and it shows a small plastic clip that goes on the guide rod prior to removing the slide. I searched everywhere but can only assume mine was left out.

I emailed Springfield today asking where I could get one. Heard back in less than an hour that they were sending a couple my way, shipping today via 1st class mail.

wonder what the clip is for, I've stripped a bunch of .45's and haven't every used one

it's odd. The gun breaks down like a polymer but I can't get the spring out. There is no bushing so everything has to come out like a polymer does but the angle doesn't work. The "tool" clips onto the guide rod outside the slide while the slide is locked back. It must position it when you release the slide from the body.

Hickok breaks it down without it but it looks like I'm going to break something if I do. It is in the manual and the takedown videos I've seen online.

Must be an artifact of being a hybrid style between traditional 1911 and polymer style.

good luck with it, I like Hickok, he's got some good video's

Anyone here used duracoat on a polymer frame? I've read on xd boards of people actually using krylon fusion and getting similar results. If so how well does it hold up? Thinking of doing my frame in OD with some stippling to break it up.

Send it off and get it DuraCoated. Its worth it.
I've sprayed a few of my pistols and carbines and it comes off if you use the gun hard. I'm terribly hard on my stuff lol

Picked this up on a whim today. Note no key lock, I was very pleased to see that. S&W model 442 .38 special.

Thanks for the tip. I'm still going back and forth. Thinking about trying krylon first... Simply because of the cost. Worse case scenario I just waste a few dollars and have it duracoated anyways.

BTW.. Nice revolver.

I honestly haven't ever heard anyone complain about Duracoat. The advantage of using Krylon though is you can change it fairly easily to whatever environment you happen to be in. My AR-10 has a fall/winter scheme:

And that pic is even dated since I did the grip. But if I wanted something to go in summer, all I need is a can of the light and dark green.

Anyway, with Duracoat, you're pretty much stuck with whatever color you go with. But those that have it done are happy.
