The Official 2nd Amendment Appreciation Thread

Lol I come in from night shift, set my pistol on the counter for a quick picture, so sandvol can see what I was talking about and my counter is being critiqued.

For the record, the watch was my dads. He died last year. I wear it now in honor of him.

Ok.. I feel like an ass now. Sorry about that buddy.

It does bring up an interesting subject. EDC. What's in your pockets every day? Here's mine.
You've already seen the smith 442 and the g17.
Edit.
So, yes GV, you can actually see what's in an anarchists pockets without a warrant lol

I carry the Sig P250(40cal.) and a small Beretta but also just bought a G17.

One last question my friend, do you conceal carry with the Surefire on, and if so, what holster are you rocking? I'll hang up and listen. :)

Sometimes I will, sometimes I don't. I like having the option. I use the raven concealment phantom holsters. I have a ton of them and they are hands down the best kydex option out there.

Raven Concealment Systems

Also recommend this belt, I've been wearing mine for a few months now and it's great.

What is a good semi-automatic pistol to have on hand that is affordable and reliable? Something to keep in the night stand. Like a Glock maybe? New? Used? Something to fend off a break-in or a random pill head that decides to come on in but not necessarily to repel an invasion by a small army.

Thanks. I'd read back through the thread, but at first glance many of those weapons appear to be overkill for mine and my family's protection.

Glock owners swear by them. Reliable and have no issues. But you're going to be spending no less than 400 and that's if you can find a good deal.

I recently purchased a Taurus pt111 g2 after going back and forth reading reviews. I've had it for a few months now and I've put some round through it. Only 1 jam that was my own fault and no f2f's. You can find them very inexpensive, but it's a quality firearm. About 299 is what I've seen them for now. It's 9mm so ammo is cheaper and it comes with 2 12 round mags.

Go to your local gun shop and hold a few different ones to see what works best for you though.

Affordable is subjective. What's your budget is the first question that needs to be answered. Then we come with recommendations.

Glocks are reliable and work perfectly fine (as well as being ugly and having no soul :p ) and even used ones tend to be just about as good as the new ones. And new ones are generally comparable in price to other quality models like the Smith and Wesson M&P, Sig Sauer, Beretta, H&K VP9, etc.

The other half of this equation is what your wife is comfortable with. You can wrap your hands around a Glock 21 all day long and be happy. But can she handle it? Any one firearm home needs a pistol that all family members can use, be comfortable with and put rounds on target when it matters. So when gun shopping, take the spouse along and have her get a feel as well. She can say "I don't care, whatever you want" all day long, but needs to be comfortable with whatever choice is brought into the home for the times you aren't around.

Glocks are good. I prefer the Springfield XDs. You can't go wrong with either. I used to be a huge .45 fan, but 9mm has grown on me.

Definitely a good weapon for a woman. Fit perfectly in my hand. The magazine stuck out a little farther than I liked but over all it felt good. Just didnt know if it would be reliable

There's plenty of reviews out there. I had one for my wife actually but ended up selling it and getting the Glock 43.

This is solid advice.(well, except the glocks have no soul comment lol) I'd also add CZ pistols to the list as well.

Whatever you buy, you have to shoot it. Don't buy it and put it in a drawer and consider yourself armed. The worst time to learn gun handling is in the middle of a gun fight.
Cheers

If you're near Sevierville go to Budd's Gun Shop and start asking questions.
