The Official 2nd Amendment Appreciation Thread

For the most part, folks like them more than the Shield and the latest Kahrs. Kahr's triggers have sucked for a while and their budget line CW series is horrid. Shield has a horrid trigger and that recall has me concerned about QC.

If I was to pick another CCW, I'd take a hard look at a PPS

Yeah, i have had a few of the M&P line and have not been impressed at all. I'm still bitter over S&W's sell out in the late 80's and early 90's
Whats funny is they have a mod for the M&P called the apex trigger, they say "its just like a Glock" if thats so, buy a glock lol

Apex is a different company that makes aftermarket stuff. They even do stuff for Glock that takes care of that Gen 4 extractor problem.

But I tend to like the M&P handling rather than the Glock. Glocks just don't fit my hands right. But you do know S&W ended up getting sold by the man that made the decision with the Clinton administration, right?

Smith & Wesson Broke Clinton-Era Gun Safety Pledge To Boost Profits

Seems like pissing off gun owners can go drastically wrong sometimes.

Indeed it can.

Glocks are not for everyone, i cut my teeth on a 1911 and transferring to a Glock took some time.

The lock on the Smiths just burn me up, you see they left it off the Model 40 (lemon squeezer) redo. Yet it remains on all other revolvers.

My main gripe with the M&P is the trigger reset. After shooting a glock for years now, it was very difficult to master. Alas, i've traded every one i've owned.

Funny thing? I've gone from the Sig legacy series to a 1911. Found I shot it a whole lot better. Not saying there's anything wrong with a Sig, just if I'm not hitting what I should, might as well get something I can hit with.

Recently have gotten back into Hi Powers as well. But the hammer bite gets annoying after a while.

Do you know if they are a true Walther product, or a Smith & Wesson? I know Smith bought Walther a while back.

They are part of umarex

They are building on to a local umarex facility here. I've seen some magazine advertisements for walther and the gun was stamped Fort Smith Arkansas

Indeed, Hi Powers are wonderful. I have a 1969 T series and a newer MK3. Novak or Cylinder & Slide can fix that hammer bite problem for you.

Yeah, they certainly can for a price lol

I had one years ago as a second handgun, an old Mark II IIRC and loved it. Ended up selling it before i went overseas and have regretted it ever since. The only one I currently have in the stable is a FEG import that does okay. Not great and picky on ammo, but for a range shooter it's fine.

I've also been getting into 9mm 1911s. Grabbed a Rock Island just to see if I'd like it and have found it's got a lot going for it for a $500 pistol. I changed the grips to Ergo XTs and will put some 3 dot sights and get rid of that goofy ambi safety so I'll have about $700 or so in it when it's said and done. But smooth as a pretty girl's backside. And accurate too.

Have to have something to shoot the massive stores of 9mm I've accumulated over the years. Of course, I'd use that excuse on just about any weapon I buy lol.

Interesting. I have had a lot of 1911's over the years, the smoothest shooting to me was a Colt Combat Elite in .38 Super. I have always been curious about a 9mm 1911 though.

I had my eye on a Springfield a while back (a few years) but they sold it before i could make a decision.

I just wish i had all the guns i have traded or sold over the years. Ah, it is what it is, as they say lol

You would be surprised at the Rock Islands. Lots of people overlook them as a cheap POS but they are forging their slides and frames, putting decent triggers in them and their barrels are pretty good too. And the fact they are a Series 70 without the firing pin plunger gets people noticing them as well.

The areas they cut corners on are the sights (which a lot of people replace anyway), the grips (which a lot of people replace anyway), and shipping with only one mag. Otherwise, it's a good starter for a 1911.

Side note on Hi Powers.

Charles Daly actually made a very good Hi Power copy a few years back, even had XS sights on them. When you can find one they are usually decently priced.

Yeah, I had a buddy that had two some years ago, (he thought he was Bruce Willis in Last man standing lol)
They always shot well and he never had a problem with them that i know of. The seem to be very well made, at a very good price point.

I've seen them pop up from time to time on Armslist and Gunbroker, but I've just gotten back into them somewhat recently.

Had a chance to get a Nazi marked Belgian made Hi Power a few months ago. Dude was asking an insane price though.

There is truth in the statement "Nothing points like a Hi Power"
I would love to get the Renaissance Model but, like the Nazi marked ones, the prices are insane.

Here is a link to Stephan Camp's site, pretty much the guru of the Hi Power, sadly he recently passed away. Great info on the site though.

Have had my eye on some STI products. I think the Spartan may be built or some of the parts may be built by RIA

Yes, the Spartan uses the Rock Island frame, slide and barrel. The rest is STI stuff

Spartan is a pretty decent price point as well. And backed by a pretty good CS.

Oh, I'm set for the moment. Will post up pics later, but when it comes to the Zombie Apocalypse, I'll be fine lol

Any opinion on the ar-22? Thinking of picking up 2. One for myself and one for my son. He's 11 and loves to shoot. He's out grown his Rossi 410/22 combo. (I use it to kill snakes now)
