The Official 2nd Amendment Appreciation Thread

Any opinion on the ar-22? Thinking of picking up 2. One for myself and one for my son. He's 11 and loves to shoot. He's out grown his Rossi 410/22 combo. (I use it to kill snakes now)

I honestly don't know a whole lot about the .22 models of ARs. I know folks tend to like the Smith and Wesson M&P22. My buddy has one of the AR22s and seems to like it but says it's a pain to clean.

Other than that, I'm not sure about .22 ARs. At age 11 though, you might want to start thinking of the big dog. You can piece together a pretty decent one from Palmetto for around $800 right now:

16'' M4 CMV Chrome-Lined Premium Rifle Kit

PSA Blemished Bullet-Pictogram Lower

PSA Aluminum Flip Up Sight Set - Same Plane

Or add the RDS for another $110.

Vortex StrikeFire and PSA Aluminum Flip Up Sight Set

ARs are like Oreo cookies. You can't have just one.

Here is my year model 1991 Taurus PT-92- Pre-Decocker

I've been well served by Taurus and Khar... I'd like to add a few more guns like a 4 inch .357 686 Smith or Ruger SP101.

I currently do not have a repeating rifle outside of my trusty Marlin model 60 .22lr. So maybe I should look for a nice lever action 30-30.

Thanks!

Jim

I'm curious....why does everyone want to shoot snakes...they play a valuable role in the grand scheme of things...

Depends on the snake actually. I have a black snake that lives somewhat close to the house and it's a live and let live thing. And I also have no rats or mice around either.

The rattlesnakes and other venomous types like that? Fair game as far as I'm concerned.

My dogs (golden retriever and blue tick) like to swim in my pond. The horses drink out of said pond. I keep the water moccasins out of it in fear for my critters. (Including my boy)

A .50 cent shot out of my 410 saves me a hell of a vet bill
King snakes are safe at my place.

Thank you. Very well may go this route. He is going to shoot next year competitively through a school program.

I've had about all I can stand of the hoarders and/or resellers.

I was off today so I stopped in Academy. Decided I swing by to see what ammo was there. Guy is standing there with 10 boxes of 22wmr at the counter. I simply ask, "Hey man, would you care to let me buy 2 boxes of that? I've been trying to find some for my wife's LCR for a while now." His response? A snide chuckle and "You can buy it at the next gun show, these guys are idiots for selling it so cheap."

Some people...

Sounds like a complete jackass. The Academy near me limits purchases to two per day. As frustrating as it is, I understand it because of people like the one you mentioned.

Any opinion on the .308?

Can pick up a nice rifle. Just not real familiar with this round.

Thanks
