The Official 2nd Amendment Appreciation Thread

I now carry the Hellcat w/ the SMSc red dot. It makes target acquisition quicker. Like someone else mention, just practice
So you can get on target quicker with a red dot vs iron? And is what he said true that some red dots are motion powered? Like I said, I’m not very familiar with them.

Absolutely. Especially with practice. The military uses red dots and scopes for a reason.

Sig Sauer are. MOTAC™ (Motion Activated Illumination) powers up when it senses motion and powers down when it does not provides for optimum operational safety and enhanced battery life

Anybody have thoughts on using a red dot on a edc? I’ve never shot a pistol with an optic

IMO no. My buddy bought a hellcat because he shot mine but he got the optic cut and they talked him into putting a holosun optic on it. He came over and shot it and couldn’t hit anything. I shot about 50 rounds myself and I shot it way worse than mine. To me the red dot is hard to pick up, harder to steady, and it’s hard to dial it in where you aren’t having to do some kind of hold off target. IMO it’s just not worth it but that’s just me.

I would be afraid it’s on just from the shock of walking. I could be wrong because I’m sure they thought of that before releasing it to the public. Maybe I just need to stop being so stubborn and try it out.

Personally, I like a dot for carry. I have been carrying with a dot for a couple years now……and for me, it’s definitely the way to go.

If you use or are accustomed to a point and shoot method…….especially a pinky squeeze point and shoot……a red dot is magic.

Disclaimer: my eyes aren’t nearly as good as they used to be…….thus the dot is extremely helpful for quick acquisition.

Another disclaimer: certain astigmatisms will make the dot, not look like a dot but blurry or kind of star shaped.

Point shooting is great…..especially in emergency/stressful situations……having a bright dot on your target (which you can see)……immediately, provides a certain sense of confidence.

Just my thoughts.

Thanks, that helps a lot!

View attachment 377991This gun looks like it was hardly ever shot if at all. Not bad for a 90 year old gun. Very pleased with the buy. The next task will be finding 16ga shells.
I saw an 11-48 Mohawk at a pawnshop the other day. 230$ someone had painted it camo. I had never heard of one before. I didn’t buy it and have no idea why. Still kicking myself for not getting it and refreshing it.

So I handled a p365xl today at the gun store, and it felt good… until somebody told me to try out the g43x.. that thing felt awesome in my big hands. I’m reading up on the 43x now, and I think it’s going to be hard to beat. It just felt perfect in my hands

I’ll say this - I’ve never even considered glock before because there is no manual safety. I’ve been rethinking that lately

No manual safety can be a good thing if you look at it a different way. I always recommend a Glock to people as a first pistol because they are so simple to operate and if it has to be used in the heat of the moment there is no fumbling around for a safety. Revolvers also don't have a safety.

Glocks are a quality pistol for the money you pay for them.

I think it’s just conditioning my mind to understand that as long as it’s holstered, it cannot go off. There has to be a reason they’re so popular. If not having a manual safety was that dangerous, I’m sure they’d start putting them on

I’m pretty set on a 43x. Only thing I want to do first is handle a 19. I’m thinking it might be a little bigger than I’m looking for, but we’ll see. I told a buddy of mine I’d try one out bc he swears by them

If you’re wanting to stay subcompact try the 27.

Just gotta tell yourself there’s a reason they’re probably #1 among the police and military. Truth be told, quite possibly the most reliable and trusted pistol in the industry.

Buy a gun and practice.
I carry a Ruger security 9.
The safety is a simple flip of the thumb as you draw. Practice and there’s no heat of the moment problem. Ask me how I know.

You seen the video of the FBI agent that dropped his Glock on the dance floor and shot someone accidentally as he picked it up?
