I wanted a shorter range deer and hog cartridge, but didn't want to deal with the longer barrel the Grendel requires for the better ballistics. The 6.8 is ideal in a 16 inch barrel and has matured as a cartridge to where factory loads are far more available than the 6.5. Finding factory loads for the Grendel? I think it's somewhere on the shelves between unicorn hooves and hydra tails.
What lower did you put the 6.8 on?
I've got nothing against the Grendel, but I think Bill Alexander sat on the cartridge too long and the market passed it by. If I had an extended range to shoot at, I might give it a whirl.

Same rationale for the Blackout. The 6.8 beats it in spades at range and I'm not using a can.

It shares a lower with my LW 5.56 upper. I built it myself on a PSA stripped lower and put an ALG QMS, Springco "blue" and either and H or H2 buffer depending on which upper I'm running. I'm tempted to just run the H2 all the time since the 5.56 doesn't seem affected by it even with weaker loads. Stock is a B5 Systems Bravo and grip is an Ergo grip.

I'll be running the 115 grain Federal MSR Fusion for the moment if I get back out there. But that Hornady 120 SST looks pretty nice as well and gets good reviews.

Sounds like a nice rig. I've been debating for over a year on if I want to do a custom build or just buy a DD, BCM, LMT, PWS.

MY wife wants to a gun for home protection and even to cary. She is a small lady with small hands. My plan is for her to try various guns at the range. She struggles to rack my SA 4.5' XD9. A friend recommended that she try the S&W Shield. Another suggested a revolver. I don't want her with anything less than a .38 revolver or 9MM semi. Your thoughts?

First go to the nearest place with as wide a selection as possible and have her handle all of them that you think suitable. The more comfortable it is in her hand and the more intuitively it points the better she'll likely shoot it. If it comes down to she likes X, Y & Z and you still want some input come on back and we'll see what's left.

If you're certain it could wind up a carry piece that trims things down somewhat.

Best post on the matter.

Barrett .50 cal. Assailant will be sawed in half. Only weighs about 29 pounds.

In all seriousness, revolver is a great suggestion due to reliability. I've heard good reviews on the S&W 442 and 642.

Agree with Hndog609. A couple to add to the list so far - Ruger LCR (supposedly a very smooth trigger that doesn't feel as heavy as it it), Sig p239 (even comes in pink), Ruger LC380 (not as snappy as the LCP and an easy racker)

I likely will get it traded out on a Wilson Combat extended tactical, left side only. I put one on my Rock Island and it's awesome.
