The Official 2nd Amendment Appreciation Thread

I've got to brag on my Sig p238 too. For such a small gun it is amazing soft to shoot and super easy to get back on target. It's softer than my p232 in stainless that weighs more than 2x as much. I ran 50 through it with the last 30 being rapid fire. Zero fatigue and accurate. Great little carry gun if you are okay with 7 rounds of .380.

Army and Marine Corps Still Disagree over M16/M4 Bullet | Military.com

U.S. lawmakers recently questioned Army and Marine Corps leaders on small-arms and why the two services buy completely different bullets for the M16A4 rifles and M4 carbines.
"You guys are using two different rounds, and you have procured several million rounds to date and you have used them in combat," Rep. Loretta Sanchez, D-Calif., said at a March 19 House Armed Services Committee hearing.

Sanchez, the ranking member of the Subcommittee on Tactical Air and Land Forces, wanted to know why the Marine Corps uses the M855 5.56mm round and the Army uses the M855A1.

To sum up, the USMC went with the Mk 318 SOST as their "go to" combat round for the infantry and kept the M855 for training while the Army is pushing forward with the M855A1 since it's "environmentally friendly" and supposedly more lethal. And ignoring the pressures building up that go from 55,000 to 63,000 psi. Proof load pressure for the M-16 FOW is 70,000 for the record.

It'll be interesting to see how this plays out.

it's crazy,

the Sec Def or comptroller, should tell them to use the same bullet....

Perhaps. But the problem lies in the fact that one has absurdly high chamber pressures, costs four times as much as a regular round but is "green" while the other isn't so green and doesn't cause undue wear and tear on the individual rifles and carbines. (despite what the Army says, there will be significantly more wear and tear on the M-4 over time)

Wars aren't exactly ecologically friendly affairs.

The real question is why does Ms. Sanchez give a damn? Read somewhere that 200 million rds of SOST only contains 200 lbs of lead. In the realm of military ammunition costs, 5.56 is inconsequential.

I did finally get to shoot one of the H&K VP9s a bit ago.

I'm impressed. Really impressed.

Going to give the P320 a try before I pull the trigger. The local range doesn't have one on the shelf for rental yet. But supposedly in a month or two they will get one in.

I will tell you this about the vp9, like a sig, if you shoot with a high grip, the slide most times, won't lock back on an empty mag. Deal breaker? Not for me, it's a training issue.

My birthday is in a month. Told hubby last night for my present I want a handgun, lessons, and my permit. Any suggestions when I start looking around? (I'm not looking for something crazy, but I don't want a little girly gun either.)
