The Official #4 Tennessee vs. #10 Texas - Battle for the Real UT - Game Thread, 6:00 PM ET, ESPN

Nkamhoua had a nice game and ZZ was able to hit the three ball and finish at the rim. Barnes won’t be happy with the defensive performance during the last ten minutes of the game.

I was surprised that our bench only gave us three points. But it’s a solid win against a top 10 team who never cut it to single digits during their run.

It will be an interesting Feb as we head into the gauntlet of our SEC schedule: @ Florida, Auburn, @Vandy, Mizz, Bama, @ KY, @A&M, USCjr, Arkansas, and @ Auburn.

Go Vols!

That Bama, Kentucky, A&M stretch are the only. Games left on the schedule that I think could be closer to “toss up” category than any other game….

At this point, A&M may very well be the 3rd best team in the SEC.

ZZ will be the key to this team's success. At this point, I'd say he's performing on the same level as Kennedy Chandler did last year. Neck and neck imo,

ZZ is attacking and finishing @ the rim which is nice to see. I was a bit concerned during the KY game but he’s definitively improved finishing since KY.

A&M is playing well. But the SEC is a crazy league. Vandy is playing better than expected and Bama got destroyed today. KY appears to be playing better and Auburn is an athletic team who went to the wire today @. West VA. I rather drop a couple early Feb and peak in March.

He held Carr scoreless in first half and absolutely out played him tonight. Santi’s 12 PT’s 8Rbs and out scored Carr with half the shots is a terrific game

Carr had two quick fouls and sat a large portion of the 1st which contributed to that stat. But I won’t argue. Vescovi plays wining basketball.

Some of our fans remain so ignorant about quality basketball.

I mean c’mon. I’ve carried the flag harder for Vescovi than anyone on this board for years. But I think this was the worst defensive game he has played in a while. It doesn’t mean it was a bad game. But it was his worst defensive effort. He is a good defender.

Nkamhoua and owning the boards were the 2 biggest factors of this victory tonight.

What is Tennessee's record in the Big 12/SEC Challenge after this win?

You mean the same game Santi and ZZ held Texas backcourt scoreless in first half, 33% shooting and 12 points below their average?

That's exactly my point (of how good of a defender Vescovi actually is). For this type of performance to be not one of his better ones. I'm praising him for how good he's actually been

Right, and it was really just the second half.

He got beat on a back cut for a layup. Beat off the dribble by Carr for a basket. Allowed an offensive rebound for bad positioning, and had some fouls to stay in front of Carr that caused him to foul out. Uncharacteristic for him but as you said. It’s a testament to how solid a defender he is.
