The Official #4 Tennessee vs Alabama (SEC Tourney Game Thread) 2PM

He turns in ducks because he is the one initiating the contact. There’s absolutely no reason for his left arm to be in the position it was other than to purposely hit the leg of the second baseman. If he stays within the plane of his shoulders, which is what the rule steaks. There is no interference. You cannot honestly say that he did that. He intentionally made contact outside of the shoulder plane.

I totally understand the emotion, it sucks that we got beat. But by today’s rules, that was a 100% correct call.
No debating it wouldn’t have been called but he also might have caught a knee to the head. For a “former player“ you have an odd way of supporting the program; you literally take the devils advocate point of view in every discussion on here. I highly doubt you’re the only person on this board who can separate emotion and logic/rationale yet you seem to be on the other side of every debate by yourself.

Any chance tomorrow decides who is the higher national seed between us and Mississippi State?

That would be my guess but Sewell only threw 27 pitches so he could be available . . . . and maybe Hunley as he threw 38 pitches . . . Though CTV and CFA may hold these guys back to set up for the Regionals.

GBO - beat the Bulldogs!! (Note the actual dog!! LOL)

😂😂 I know what you meant re: bulldog. Yes, time to beat them tomorrow!

Glad that Sewell still may be an option. I think I read somewhere that Hunley would be available again should we advance beyond tomorrow.

Walsh and Sewell seem like a solid tandem. I’m glad we have Cheese on the bump tomorrow.

As for State, to be honest, I’d rather play them than Florida for a fourth time. We were bound to cross paths with them at some point. Sure, it be tough, but then again every SEC team is at this point in the SEC tournament. Both teams will be playing for national seeding position.

Ready for tomorrow morning’s game!

If you can think that fast doing ANYTHING then good on you. He put his hand up cause the baseman was gonna be on top of him.
He’s a former player who’s better and a quicker thinker than Max so he would’ve deciphered all the scenarios as he was sliding and kept his shoulders in their plane knowing it could cost his team a win if he doesn’t.

I was in my car listening to the game and heard the call and confusion. I just now saw the replay and I don't know how (In live play) you call that interference. I agree, on replay, the hand touched the 2nd baseman but live, no way that is interference. And I'm not one to blame the umps/refs, but that was a 2000 UT/UF type call.

Whatever makes you guys and gals feel better.

Like Chris said, back when he played the second baseman would have been picking himself up out of the outfield grass.
That is not the rule today. No matter what state the game is played in.

Whining does not suit some of you.

Which ones does it suit?

Hum...”a rolling or cross body slide”...who would have known?

Really . . . Fergie executed text book slide for second base, NOT a slide to the outfield side of the base or completely off of the bag to the outfield side of the bag to break up a double play, which is done to take OUT the second baseman/short stop!! What the H3LL are you talking about, "a rolling or cross body slide"? Look at Fergie's left foot in relation to the damn bag and his right hip and his right arm . . . GEEZ

GBO - beat the snot out of State!

Fellow Vol fans,
Now that heads have had a chance to cool down. Please look at the play again. Explain to me how the runner’s left arm fully crossed over his body, his shoulders completely turned in order for him to purposely make contact with the second baseman.
If it had been his right arm, then you most likely have a no call. Our base runner intentionally twisted his body to make contact with the second baseman.
We may not like the call, but the call was correct according to the way that the rules are written today.
That one call was not the reason we lost that game.
Flame away...get it out of your system, we play again tomorrow and it is time to win!
GBO!!
Not that it matters on to next game but I thought he put that arm up in a protection mode from a cleat. The way his body was sliding he couldn’t use the other arm for protection that’s a natural move to protect yourself/ face. The player had already loaded and releasing the ball IMO it did not affect the play. It was a bang bang play and he threw a little high pulled 1st base foot off but they reviewed it in Birmingham and I knew the answer when review started.

I think it does. Resumes are very similar. I also think it’s possible the loser could drop out of the top 8 depending on how other teams finish. I’m of the belief that the committee would love to keep 4 SEC teams out of the top 8 if they can.

What team did you play for? The condescending tone seems really familiar.

Didn’t get to watch but it makes me sick to hear about this game. How do we keep losing to Alabama in sports like this even when they are bad or mediocre.
