The Official #5 Tennessee @ #10 Kentucky Game Thread, 8:30 PM ET, ESPN

They did not play good defense overall. The two easy Knect inbound feeds were high school. Cal may call it quits himself this year. The game is changing, and he knows KY fans won't accept losing twice in a row at Rupp.
Just like Jimbo at Texas A&M - why quit when they have to pay you a king’s ransom to make you leave?

I'll be the first to admit that I did not see this coming, and I'll happily eat my generous portion of crow. Even with the fantastic start, I expected the Vols' offense to be victimized by the all too familiar deep freeze at any moment, especially when Ky closed the gap to 4! Kudos to the Vol vets who showed up in spectacular fashion after that forgettable disappearing act on Tues. Any road win is an occasion for celebration, especially this year when ranked teams have lost road games to unranked teams on a scale not seen in recent memory! Congrats Big Orange, and thanks for giving us an evening to remember for a very long time!!

Any win on the road in the SEC is a big deal: football, basketball, badminton, rowing

But perhaps time to give CRB his credit: since he got his guys in place the Vowels are no longer an easy out no matter where the game is played

It is 18 year olds, so God knows what can happen any given night. Why I never bet college sports. But time to give Rick his due. Dude has yet to go all GOAT in the tourney but he has been money--home or away--for going on 10 years now in SEC games and raised the program

I suggest we not take SEC basketball greatness for granted

We ain't no perennial blue blood program. Just recruiting and playing like it of late

I've always wanted to know this, why do basketball teams wear white at home and not orange or whatever on the road? It's the exact opposite in football.

One story said it has something to do with visiting teams not always having access to washing machines. So the dark unis hide the dirt. But that’s more baseball - “home whites”.

Football teams used to wear their colors home AND away. UT had to wear white jerseys in the 1969 Corton Bowl versus the ut Longhorns because black and white TVs couldn’t distinguish between their burnt orange and our amazing orange.

Jaxon--

I probably cannot offer a definitive answer, but will offer my best guess:

It is like everything else we absolutely love and hate about college sports: tradition corrupted by media arm twisting

One of my favorite SI covers of all time (other than the swimsuit editions, duh) is a 1960's TN vs AL football game where both teams were wearing their home colors. But b/w TV did not offer enough contrast to differentiate home vs away, so rules were accommodated

MLB teams have their city name away yet mascot name on the jersey at home. Tradition corrupted by TV money

I think it is perhaps really that simple

I didn’t know about the mascot.

The NCAA at some point stopped letting basketball jerseys have both. The “Tennessee Volunteers” and the “Oklahoma Sooners” were the last two teams that were grandfathered in with both. Then that ass-hat Kevin O’Neill ruined it for TN by taking off “Volunteers” and UT was no longer grandfathered. The NCAA has since repealed the rule and both could be on jerseys again.

I like the script 'Vols' home jersey

I like the oh so old school "Tennessee Volunteers" Times New Roman font jerseys

But no one really cares what I think--until I express my opinion by buying one

SI wrote that is Albert Dorsey for UT but there is a disagreement that it’s Jimmy Weatherford.

That is the cover!!

TY for posting it @Thunder Good-Oil

I would so love if we could get a waiver and wear home and home again every Third Saturday in October

I think my 4K 70in TV can differentiate between the heroes and the inbreds

I knew Mr. Dorsey from my Brentwood days back in the 2000's. From my memory, over coffee, he told me it was he himself on that cover.... But I could be wrong. By the way, what a fine gentleman.

Well...

Fortunately for me the early 2000s were the era of the 'two martini lunch' so I am not legally responsibly for anything I said between 2000 and 2009 during lunch meetings

Check my stats, hehe

Just now getting to post and wish I got tohear t Tony B after the win. What a win and so proud of JJJ stepping up and playing so well. When he is aggressive like he was tonight at Rupp and how he was at UNC he can really be special at times. I hope we can play like this at TBA on senior night!! Can't wait to watch this when I get home. GBO!!

Basilio will probably run the post game show on an endless loop until he goes live Monday at 11am. tonybasilio dot com and the Tony Basilio app. The first repeat is about halfway through right now.

And we can't take Barnes for granted either. He can step away at any time. It's a high stress job that gets harder with age.
