The Official #6 Tennessee @ Vanderbilt Game Thread, 7:00 PM ET, SEC Network

Thanks for saying it. Folks just assume if we didn’t have Barnes we’d be better. History tells us, we would be worse. Far worse. Tonight was a horrible outcome. Thankfully the season isn’t over tonight.

I can appreciate the measured take you’ve got. It’s a good comment. It just is so much more frustrating that non hall of fame coaches (yet) in football and basketball here are vastly overachieving. Combine that with the great hires made at Bama/Arky and possibly on or more of Mizzou/UF/MSU/aTm and it kills me when we have these losses and the lackluster March play. It’s hard not to go 1000x BVS bc of that crap.
I wouldn't compare Tennessee to Arky, necessarily. They are a sneaky good basketball program historically with quite a bit more historical success than us.

Alabama is a better comparison and, yes, they appear to have hit a home run as far as a coaching hire. If Alabama starts consistently making deep tournament runs, then I'll be right there along with everyone else in saying "Why can't we do that?"

Why is it that when Tn gets a 5* they never live up to that ranking ? Chandler was the closest. Phillips is weak and cant stay under control. I was never impressed with him early on and had hope that he would improve but he is the same as he was early on. I got blasted after the AU game when I said TN will be lucky to beat Vandy. This team has problems and it all started when Barnes changed the lineup. JJJ was never going to break or make this team, he is a streaky shooter and this team was actually playing better before he came back. I hope his injury is not bad. Vescovi, unless its a wide open 3 , he is about useless.
Vescovi is worthless and has been forever. They have very average guards and its going to get them bounced early again..

can’t count out first round lol
Depends on how we play the rest of the way.

Potential is there to climb back out of the free fall we are in and get a good, favorable seed.

Potential is also there to drop 3, possibly 4 and end up playing someone in the first round for that extra early exit.

i don’t wanna be this guy but, outside of the south carolina game is it possible tennessee will lose the rest of the games this year at this point? i mean look at the schedule

Not trying to derail this into a convo about Pearl, but he got Auburn to a Final Four and I see Oats at Bama passing UT and playing a better brand of basketball. Embarrassing losses to inferior opponents by all metrics to Colorado, FLA and now Vandy. I’m not down for making a change. There was a time when we would kill for a record like this and some of the seasons we’ve had under Barnes. I just think we’ve seen Barnes’ ceiling here unless we get some big time luck somewhere along the way. We’re looking really ugly down the stretch with some tough games left and the postseason is looking pretty daunting with our latest performances.

Absolutely bad loss but I thought the TO Vandy called and the refs adding .8 sec was very questionable. To me, I thought the referee was raising his hand to stop the clock before the Vandy player came set and signaled for a TO. I understand the referee is told a TO is going to be called, but he can't anticipate it before it is physically asked for. With that said, we only score 63 points against one of the worse defenses in the SEC, we deserve to lose. This team better find something within itself soon or it will be like ever year, 2nd round is our ceiling.
STewart was official. He is horrible!!! Clock on tv showed 4.6 sEC. But no dunk and missed FT in clutch waaas difference. 3 ft’s with all that contact.

No but look at the stretch of games coming up. 3-4 losses.

I think we significantly outplayed Vandy for about 35 minutes but it wasn’t reflected in the score due to Vandy not missing from 3 and the discrepancy in fouls.

The mental collapse at the end makes it harder to swallow though.

That’s now how March works. Contrary to volnation belief, March madness has no memory. It could care less that we haven’t traditionally played well. It will all be about matchups and how we’re playing at the time. I’d much rather us lose tonight and figure it out in March than the opposite.

Embarrassing, Embarrassing, Embarrassing!!!!!!!! I have never seen anything like this! We have to inbound the ball 5 times, cause we could not make it to the FT Line prior to the final minutes in the game! We were 2-3 free throws for the ENTIRE GAME! Vandy was 4 times better at 8-12. Coach Barnes told the team not to shot any shots on the inbound & Phillips pulled up & didn't dunk it. That would have put us up by 4 points. Vescovi missed the FT, then Vescovi did something on the final play that he did all game, & all year. He would go to the free throw to guard the shooter who is at the corner 3 point line! It was a wide open uncontested shot! Our offense has to have more movement! Vandy's offense had a lot of movement in it , they set those picks & it kept them open! They attacked the rim! They made it to the FT line!
