The *OFFICIAL* Brandon Spikes thread (merged)

That's a weak argument as to why he retaliated or just felt compelled to poke a guy's eyes out. The suspension just shows that Meyer is only concerned with winning.

You cannot be serious. Have you not watched a game all year? You can't turn on ANY game without hearing the gospel according to Tebow read from the book of Meyer. You guys are really reaching now in a pathetic attempt to cover your thug's ass. If Rico had done the same exact thing to Tebow, you guys would have formed lynch mobs and the hanging would have been televised live on ESPN and CBS.

1. Really? I thought Lane Kiffin was the one getting alll the attention...

2. You mean sort of like Vols fans are doing now?

There's no excuse for what Spikes did....none....

The game was indeed chippy all day. Both teams were called for personal fouls, and the refs missed opportunities to call personal fouls on both teams.

Had Spikes been ejected, which you can easily argue he could have been (had the refs seen it), it would have been an automatic suspension for half of the next game. This is why the SEC bought off on the half game suspension.

If all goes to plan against Vandy I doubt if Spikes plays at all.

Is that what I wrote? No.

Vol fans would have him suspended for the season, arrested, and jailed just because he plays for the hated Florida Gators. If it was Eric Norwood that tried to go Three Stooges on Anthony Dixon there probably wouldn't even be a thread in this forum. But given its Brandon Spikes he is the worst human since Hitler.

The act (attempt) didn't cause injury- I have seen worse on a dirty late hit that did cause injury. I would agree that a one game instead of a half game suspension would have been more appropriate.

And if he were not a Gator, you would not be defending his actions.

wonder what would happen if someone would do this to teblows slive would probably suspend him and cum would what to press charges

This is a very good point. Everyone would be flipping out right now if a Georgia player had done that to Tebow.

But, it was Spikes against a player I hadn't heard of before yesterday. The other poster was right too - this is the punishment you get for missing curfew or being late to a team meeting or missing the bus.

Seems like every game I watch that these kids with the long dread locks keep loosing their helmets. I watched Spikes button his chin strap with 2 or 3 buttons several plays last week so no wander his helmet flies off.

Exactly, his helmet kept coming off because he didn't buckle his chin strap the way he should and he got poked in the eye. I'm pretty sure that wasn't the only time he lost his helmet in the first half of that game. It wasn't a particularly hard block or anything dirty and he retaliates by trying to poke someone in the eye after the play was over.

Chris Low called him out yesterday as well. Made a lot of sarcastic comments like maybe Spikes was just going after one eye or "half". Pretty good read as well.

imagine what the uproar would have been if a georgia linebacker did this to TEBOW!

i would almost bet that the suspension handed down by the SEC would be waaaay more than half a game. just my opinion.

Favoritism for Florida? Seems as though we have known that for a long time. It's finally getting noticed elsewhere. Good work Slive, way to represent the SEC.

This just in. Slive comments that gouging an opponent player's eye will not be worthy of a game or multi-game suspension until Kiffin does it.

We can't control how Florida runs it's program. I'd like to think our holier-than-thou commissioner would take public action to Spike's on-the-field conduct. I always thought an example needed to be displayed and what a better way then on the #1 team and it's captain after displaying an inexcusable act. The public eye is constantly on the SEC with Florida being the top viewed. I believe most programs players will not sink to these kind of plays and I feel proper action will be the case, but the SEC missed it's opportunity and showed the nation that looking the other way is a heck of a lot easier.

Chris Low is from where? He used to write for who?

What a statement.

You are trash just like Spikes. To compare a weak assed late hit to gouging at a players eyes is akin to saying slapping someone is the same as shooting them. You’re an idiot thug loving douche. Get the hell off this site!
I suggest you take a long look at life and what matters. What Spikes did could have damaged a young mans vision for life. Tebow getting a small hit (should have been flagged) late is just dumb football. That happens in most games. Gouging an eye doesn’t.
I have not seen any UF fans do anything but try and justify what that thug did. Your coaches actions are indefensible as well.

Deep breaths. He is punished. Nothing more is going to happen.

Just let it go.

Your take = what a shock!

The entire UF program is filled with a huge void of class and dignity. Your coach should be ashamed of himself along with your cry baby AD. Let a grown man make a comment about them and all hell breaks out with tears and all. Hell it was an abomination what Kiff said and hurt Meyer and Foley's feelings and By God an apology was demanded. Let one of Meyer's thugs try to disable a kid on the field with video evidence and we should just let it go...
No sir I don't care who it is. That kind of action deserves true punishment and your coaches action shows who he really is. For the sake of Spikes own future he should have been punished more in order to send a message. But also for the sake of the rest of the team and the game its self.

I haven't tried to justify it. I've said he should get a one game suspension, thoigh a half isn't so ridiculoously low as to be unreasonable.

On the other hand, I do think people are getting a little high and mighty about this just because its a chance to crticize the Gators.

of course you say this...you are an unbiased gator fan

Mike Golic is that you? The reason for the video was not to justify Spikes and his actions, rather just show the "chippiness" of the game in general. As I said earlier in this thread, there is no place for what Spikes did in football or anywhere else for that matter. Spikes was completely out of line and should have been suspended from the game and the next game completely. He will serve his punishement. Now, will you take back all the hate towards me in your post? :p

Agreed, from an unbiased perspective of course. :)
